As Of Midnight, Texas Is Living In A Post-Roe World

Gosh, it’d be a shame if Right to Life Texas’ Anonymous Tip Form received an overwhelming number of submissions.

Totally agree–deafening silence from TPM.

This was sadly inevitable. The 6 anti-choice right wing theocrats on the Court are gunning to kill Roe v Wade, either outright, or by de facto repeal. It’s happening. About half the country will soon no longer allow abortion.

In related news, the legislative filibuster prevents Democrats from passing any legislation to bring back Roe v Wade or protect voting rights. Special congratulations go to senators Manchin and Sinema for this debacle.

Never, at least not under this statute. The cause of action is against the provider, not the person with the uterus.

Well sure, this makes Greg more likely to win the Taliban’s nomination for POTUS. It ain’t gonna play well in any general, even assuming that Trump for some reason declines to run for a second public humiliation.

That’s a bold assumption that someone who’d engage in vigilantism would also take the time to understand who the statute is supposed to punish before taking the law into their own hands

As I understand this law the state did not ban abortion but rather thru some convoluted language is allowing citizens to sue someone who even thinks about an abortion and sees a doctor about such a procedure.
From cnn.com
“The law allows private citizens to bring civil suits against anyone who assists a pregnant person seeking an abortion in violation of the ban.”
… …
This is being very poorly reported. The state did not ban abortion at 6 weeks… rather they allowed citizens to sue each other, doctors, clinics, hospitals… what have you.

Now we know the Texas border wall should be on the north side of the state, not the south.

It’s not a bold assumption that their panty-sniffing attorneys would take the time to read the damn statute.

Not really, although it’ hard to tell, the anti-abortion crowd is probably a minority, but they are helped by all the women that were either too apathetic or just didn’t see it as their problem to fight back. How many women will change their vote, or reconsider moving to Texas, because what might happen if their little princess gets knocked up, putrity ring notwithstanding?

Yes, I’m glad that he didn’t muff it.

True, the Okie Menace should never be underestimated.

We did that once. These days it’s unConstitutional.

The Doctors are probably regulated at the Sate level by a Board appointed by the Governor ( That’s how it’s done here ). I haven’t a clue what venue would handle a suit against a person for giving a person a ride to an abortion clinic ( I’m sure that diddy will not stand the test of time ) but if abortion post 6 weeks is illegal the doctor would be subject to state level review and punishment.

This law better be about 600 pages long and 500 of them outlining exemptions. The most common procedure for in clinic abortion is vacuum aspiration or dilate and clean. That D and C is used for a ton of other uterine disorders. It may be medically necessary to D and C and in doing so inadvertently cause an abortion. What then? I could go on all day.

Well, America voted for this. If it wasn’t what we wanted, I guess more of us should have been paying attention. Elections matter; more than sports, celebrities or even porn, elections matter. I wonder if the general population will ever figure that out, though.

I’m talking a negotiated divorce, not illegal attempts at secession. We can negotiate the relocation of all the sane people who don’t want to stay in the red areas that will be third-world countries within a matter of months without the blue areas to prop them up haha

Shoot, most of the red areas are already there.
