“I’m going to win the election, and I will accept that result,” Arizona Republican Kari Lake said this weekend when repeatedly asked whether she’d accept the results of her election if she lost.
So if Kari Lake or any of these election denying noodniks wins their elections, were the elections then stolen and will they deny the results? Inquiring minds want to know.
Anyone who says they will only accept results if they win is a person I will automatically disregard as deserving of my vote because it’s antithetical to a functioning democracy. And I’m almost a one issue voter this time around.
Invy: Thanks for this statement…below is a post of mine from another thread in brackets. It is well and prudent to note and berate the Right. But in our justified rage dealing with them, we miss putting forth equally dynamic people on our side.
People who are recording screeds of our own philosophy and determination to win
People who are calculating strategies for turnout
People who are going door to door
People who are in the midst of historic voter registration drives
People who can place the importance of our vote in the proper context
…and so on
One cannot open up a link without getting an earful of RWNJ bluster, and that is a sure-fire way of getting them fired up. That’s why Obama used the term while campaigning
["Let’s hope all the Democratic candidates can be the recipient of as many protectors of Democracy (Democratic voters) as humanly possible.
Throughout the Debacle that is the Trump Era, vastly more time and effort has been spent in describing and lamenting the existence, power, audaciousness, number, and obstinance of Trump/GOP voters.
Barely a lick of attention to Democratic voters…what makes them tick…the nature of the coalition…the types of constituencies."]
If the Democrats/Chinese/antifa/whoever are so incredibly good at “rigging” elections, can they rig the hell out of an election for the Republican, then allow the Democrats to uncover the Republican fraud? Would that finally shut them up?
Add to your worries the very real truth of the matter which is mid-term elections usually have low turnouts. It could be voters are riled up about one issue or another, talking heads predict it’ll be abortion, but who knows, but as long as thoughtful people turn out, meaning Democrats, we might be okay. Polls and our 24/7 news cycle I believe creates some of the hysteria we’re experiencing but not putting a name to.
Great Post (in terms of practicality). Why would we GAF? We are going appeal to OUR people**. It’s like saying–during and after Overlord–“The Germans want to beat us”
After Bash told Lake that her claim was baseless, the former Arizona TV news anchor hit back, saying: “The real issue, Dana, is that the people don’t trust our elections. They haven’t since 2000. I’m a reporter. I have been sitting on your side of the desk for a long time. And, since 2000, we have Americans who don’t trust our elections.”
I wonder what happened in the 2000 election that could have caused people to distrust our election system…
Either way, candidates’ evasiveness about whether they will concede foreshadow a tumultuous November, including drawn-out legal journeys to nowhere — and set a dangerous precedent for 2024.
The dangerous precedent has already been set by the imbecile who has come as close as anyone to toppling our democracy - and the immense damage he has done continues to ricochet throughout the country. Not being willing to say you will accept the results of the election should obviously be a disqualifier for anyone who wants to participate in an election.
There are a lot of people in AZ who are sick of the crazy, but there are also an amazing number of crazy people. I am praying every day that the former outnumber the latter and they are going to vote.
Completely off topic - if you lost someone to Covid who was a vaccine denier or just love to hear a dramatic story told well, I recommend the This American Life podcast from yesterday.
