That part’s bullshit. He never gave a damn about the public.
I have noticed that ‘feature’, and just chalked it up to ‘stupid’.
It has always been sociopath. Actually, he is the prime example of a Dark Triad Psychopath.
Understatement of the millenium.
Panic in the stockmart?
Cognitively challenged sociopath?
I’d prefer them standing in front of a brick wall.
In that sense sure. He certainly thought first of his electoral prospects and decided that actually addressing the pandemic would, you know, call attention to it. I’d say he panicked more than the public ever did.
I was “playing it down…”
Trump should be on trial for depraved heart murder and/or reckless endangerment of human life.
The audio proves Trump’s knowledge and understanding of the virus. He knew it was an airborne virus in early Feb. He knew it was 50x more deadly than the flu. He’s on tape.
Honestly, he should take a pardon now and resign. The only things waiting in the political afterlife for him are trials and prison.
Every person who has a family member who has suffered and/or died from the corona virus knows that Trump caused those deaths.
Politically, this comes at the worst possible time for Trump. It frames the discussion for the first debate. The US will cross 200,000 deaths by next week. We will also surpass the UK, Spain, and Italy on deaths per capita. All of this provides the backdrop, many of whom will cast ballots in October. In addition, the key thing to look at his relative turnout. Trump won in 2016 b/c of a late turnout surge among white voters, particularly working class whites and a shift among college educated whites to Trump. The Comey letter caused those shifts. Here, the trendlines indicate the turnout surges will be among anti-trump voters. With Trump being definitively at fault for many coronavirus deaths and job losses, I don’t see Trump surge happening.
This report on CNN is pretty much everything: https://twitter.com/AngrierWHStaff/status/1303740101311242246?s=20
If “This is great stuff” is the filtered version of “Gotcha you bastard”, then yeah.
He always projects and he always lies.
Hey, the musicians on the Titanic played music to the end. They “played it down,” too.
Tena: “He’s definitely both.”
when his first inclination is: “what’s in it for me?”, bad shit happens. his daddy was a bad daddy.
February 7, actually.
Exactly. He had to create a fake narrative that always makes himself the center of attention and the hero of the day. He’s used to just point-blank lying about everything, so lying about COVID was not a stretch. He thought he could just bluff his way though this one.
He just didn’t want a panic to mess with his chances of re-election, but he is so stupid he didn’t realize that if he attempted to reasonably address the pandemic instead of pretending it could be ignored his chances for re-election would improve. In addition to being too stupid to conceive of it, he is too lazy to undertake that kind of long term strategy.
Yeah, it’s not a “great stuff” of approval. It’s that it’s “good copy,” in other words, intensely interesting. As a human being of course you’re appalled. But the job is to help people understand how things are, ideally in a compelling way that makes them care, and when you have a freak like Trump who doesn’t understand the catastrophic awfulness of what he’s done, getting him to cop to it is a huge achievement. You don’t stand up and stomp out in moral outrage, because you want him to say everything he has to say when he’s in this mood.
If Donnie knew then the people around him did also. I posit that Trump is a sick puppy. I wonder what Ms. Conway will her daughter.
As bad as this is for him we still need an overwhelming turnout for the election. The EC is still there and without a big push he can still win. Get to work. I’d be shocked if even this pushes him below 40% approval.
