I agree with everything you said, but would like to add one more thing, financial penalty. Sometimes that can be a fine, or restitution for damages, but I don’t want them to write one check and be done with this. I want them to have to write a check every year, and I want them to have hand deliver to a federal judge. I do want them to have to pay this off for the rest of lives.

As has been said many times, the overwhelming support for Donald “grab her by the …” Trump proves beyond all doubt that “values” in front of the word voter is and has always been code for race.
The research for this article has a major flaw in that it fails to include certain Evangelical Christian groups that are known for violence from blowing up women’s health care facilities to historical lynchings.
“What is going on?”
That’s the question that’s pouring into my inbox, into my text messages, and into every one of the (too many) social media apps I use. It’s a question usually accompanied by a news article about a furious Christian leader, a screenshot of a Facebook post by an enraged Christian friend, or an account of a troubling conversation with an angry client or customer. While the insurrection of January 6 caused some Christians to suddenly wake up to the danger of the rage in their ranks, others doubled down. And the fury is leaking out everywhere.
The answer to that question is obviously complex—almost absurdly complex. I’ve written about many of the near-term motivations, including the corruptions of Christian nationalism. But this week, let’s go even deeper. I’ve written at length about the danger of American Evangelicalism becoming too Republican. But I also have come to believe there’s a danger in American Evangelicalism becoming too southern.

A large swath of Americans have been brought up on a steady diet of right-wing rage media. It’s normalized behavior in many parts of the country. Fox and Trump himself fed these people daily.
Why the need to belong to a named extremist group when your beliefs are ‘normal?’
Think of the racists you’ve encountered. Or the sexists. Or those who always blame others and harbor revenge fantasies. If they’re affiliated at all, it’s via social media under pseudonyms.
They are what they’ve ‘eaten.’

Watching xtian TV, the Swaggarians and all, I can’t imagine that religion wasn’t factored into this. Trump would have never been elected without his unholy alliance with it, the enraptured and the endtimer believers in their strange readings of scripture and prophecy. Doing godswork was voting for Trump. Why would they be different than so many others convince of this?

This reflects something I’ve been saying here recently. These people have jobs, businesses, homes, families, etc. If they are meted out harsh punishments, they will act as examples to discourage the average Trumper from acting up. They have too much to lose.

I don’t think it’s “doing God’s work” so much as it is trying to square the idea of salvation and eternal life with the realization that there is no afterlife, no ‘second coming’, and no magic entity pulling their strings.

Now, really fair justice would compel that trump be indicted for serial child abuse for caging children taken from families ripped apart at the mexican border. I have seen this up close as I live quite near the border. There were facilities here just a mile from my home that held kids.
This was sadistic cruelty by trump and there is no forgiveness from me for it.

The loser directed his administration to look at non-threatening groups like antifa and purposely directed them away from the real violent groups. He wanted this insurrection. It was the rioters’ way of showing him love and that’s all he ever wanted.
