I man of principle…except when he was voting for Donald Trump.
Arizona’s sore loser law apparently applies to Bowers because he’s a legislative official. Doesn’t seem to apply to executive positions, or we wouldn’t have had Evan Mecham elected Governor in 1986, when Bill Schulz’ spoiler campaign as an independent split the Democratic vote. From Wikipedia:
Schulz announced his intention in 1984 to run for the governorship once again in the 1986 election, but initially withdrew from the race in 1985 due to the health of his daughter.[3] Schulz then decided to re-enter the race, but was required to do so as an Independent candidate, as he was not able to seek the Democratic nomination. In September 1986, Schulz collected enough signatures to be placed on the November ballot as an independent.[1] During the election, Schulz was criticized for constantly changing his position on the issues.[4] Despite Schulz leading in many polls leading up to the election, Republican nominee Evan Mecham was elected as Governor, due to the race being split into a three-way contest, and causing the Democratic nominee Carolyn Warner to lose by a narrow margin to Mecham.[1] Mecham would be impeached from office only two years later, but the 1986 gubernatorial race ended Schulz’s political career and he returned to the private sector.[1]
I bring this up because even after nearly forty years, I’m still pissed at Schulz (still alive, and living in Iowa now) for saddling us with that jackass Evan Mecham for several years.
(To be fair, Schulz’ “I’m running/I’m not running/Oops, I running after all” schenanigans complicated the matter.)
We have allowed a preoccupation with which GOP candidates for Office have been endorsed by Donald Trump to somewhat obscure an unexpected and very strong victory in Kansas.
And the funny thing is that the aforementioned Trump endorsements may turn out to have the potential for favorable outcomes for us in November.
I, myself, am pleased with what I saw yesterday evening.
“We are not men. We are Devo.”
I’ll keep an open mind until Twain’s dog quote is presented.
Even if it was only to split the vote and give dems a better shot at the seat. Doubtful, but it would be great to watch them burn their own house down in order to keep their “family” from burning up the whole town.
Oh…and about Kornacki (a subject of many a joke in these parts)
Kornacki made strong inferences of connectivity between abortion issues and Democratic candidates who could be in positions to exploit that. As @pluckyinky once stated today, there are new events calling for reproductive care every second of the day…and if people think that some Trump Bluster is all that’s needed to counteract the ROLLING SNAFU that is the aftermath of Dobbs, then, just maybe I should start using the term self enslavement more
I’m hoping for a Republican internal civil war, personally. All these conservatives who are wrong-headed but reject fantasy and crime have to go somewhere, and they’ll never go to the Democratic Party.
I had a dilemma yesterday in picking a Dem to run for the US senate. One candidate was a younger guy that first ran for office as a Republican, so against abortion and gay marriage. He’s changed, change is good but it gave me pause when that was brought up. The other choice was a woman who has never held public office Trudy Busch Valentine, yeah the Busch family.
Well my choice went with Trudy and she won. Listening to the election recap with the local St. Louis public radio political reporters I’m not sure that she can win state wide. So now I think come November I may just cast my vote for John Wood. He got enough signatures in the state to run as an Independent. John was an investigator on the J6th committee until Danforth got him to run. I’m intrigued by this experiment.
“So, you know, they, they found a niche, they found a way and it’s fear. And people can use fear, demagogues like to use fears as a weapon. And they weaponize everything,” Bowers said. “That’s not leadership to me to use thuggery.”
Well, no wonder he’s a goner.
Arizona repubs had a chance to repudiate the disgusting behavior of their brethren who hurled vile insults at Bowers from outside the windows of his home while inside, his daughter was dying. Instead, they stood with their cult leader trump.
He’s so pink.
And when they show you/us who they are, believe them.
Gotta look, but I don’t think Robison reenter as an indy.
Remember the party of Lincoln was not the conservative crowd. The democrats of that time were. The party of Lincoln even had a progressive faction back then. Tempo cambio.
How I long for the days of old fashioned ward heeling and petty corruption.
Go ahead and keep purging your party of people who have at least some degree of reasonableness. Your GOP will continue to shrink until it shrivels and dies.
I have seen Luca Kunce’s recent media appearances……he seems like an articulate and reasoned candidate that maybe can have a future in Missouri. Is this how you see him?
I wrestled with this, and because of Manchin/Sinema I’m having a hard time giving someone a chance. I’m actually surprised Trudy did as well as she did.
He lost because he showed some cojones and spoke truth to bullshit.
