AOC Wants ‘Uncomfortable’ Concessions From Biden To Party’s Left Flank | Talking Points Memo

They have the franchise. They can use it to elect Trump, or to elect Biden. After their bad faith takes on…on pretty much every Democratic nominee for 30 years, I have zero patience.

Yes, but AOC’s argument seems to be “We lost, but if you want our vote, you still have to give us everything we want. Then maybe we’ll support you.”

This is a bit dicey for Biden and I think the best play is to just move on for the time being. Stay busy with COVID-19 and then general campaigning. Come back to the “Bernie Bros” wing of the party around the convention with some kind of peace offering. If he empowers them now he’ll have to yield more and more ground over the summer. If he cuts them off, they will be more infuriated than ever.

Cast the election as a referendum on Trump and let the Bernie Bros reflect on that. If it doesn’t reduce their steam somewhat, then nothing will.

Guaranteed way to get 4 more years of Trump. This has always been a problem with Sanders’s supporters. If we lose, we will not support the majority who won. In fact, we will vote for the other party just to spite you, Get a clue AOC. Grow up, get on board, help defeat Trump, save the nation.

I am unaware of any plans to take away their right to vote. Pointing out their bullshit is not disenfranchisement.

FWIW, pushing a Medicare buy-in is a winning idea…

Everybody I know hates their private insurance, but are terrified of losing it unless a viable alternative emerges…

As is anyone withholding their vote because their preferred candidate did not get the nomination.

Sometimes, you just have to suck it up and take one for the team.

If you don’t, That’s a great way to ensure a trump re-election.

I realize questioning AOC is near heresy in TPM but I gotta do what I gotta do. “”""“Beating Donald Trump is a matter of life or death for our communities"""" and I agree. But creating unnecessary divisions like “uncomfortable concessions or else we take our ball and go home” is not how to beat Trump. It’s how he’ll win if we keep it up. If the Bernie crowd beats down another Democratic candidate his efforts will have done nothing but enable Trump and hand him 4 more. AOC needs to think through this and be a bit more consistent. I’d like to think she’s the future of the Democratic Party but if she keeps this 2016 Bernie bullshit up she can take a hike.

They had their time to make their voices heard. We heard it loud and clear.

And it was rejected. By voters.

This far left flank is NEVER going to vote for Biden. Never.

“But when you talk about lessons from 2016, one of the most divisive things that we can do is just smother and silence legitimate points of critique — especially from people whose lives are most at risk in this administration.”

No, one of the most divisive things was to try to include as much so-called progressive ideas as possible in the elction agenda, have the far left flank attack Democratic leaders and still lose to a maniac. GTFO with that mess.

ETA: One of the things that really pisses me off about these entitled dilettantes is that they insist we all come together which primarily entails the Democratic establishment giving them what they want and the remainder of us just accepting it.

Yeah, Biden needs to massage these kids and promise them something. But it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that the exalted youth vote will happen. Because it never does. It won’t happen until you can vote from a phone app that gives your Candy Crush program a weapons upgrade as a reward.

The fact that you could predict the responses does not make them any less valid.

On one hand AOC says defeating Trump is a matter of life and death. Then she says she’s not on board with a full endorsement of Biden yet. Is it just me or does that seem contradictory?

It does and stupid as well. I hope she’s just having a bad day.

We’ll never know if we don’t try. What I hear from the Biden people is very frustrating and narrow minded. The progressive movement transcends one or another particular candidate. It’s a set of values and priorities. And it didn’t disappear. In fact it will only grow larger as the country implodes economically.

Well, this is degenerating into a pie fight less than I thought it would, but I need to get coffee.

She says … "Beating Donald Trump is a matter of life or death for our communities,”

Either she believes that - or she does not… if you truly believe that a Trump win is certain doom - then all of this " I’ll have to see how much Biden bends before I determine how hard I’ll work for him" … seriously … how sincere are you? How much do you want to survive? Like it or not , if 4 more years of Trump is assured annihilation … then Biden is the only train out … and the best (only) option is to get onboard & help it win … there are no other options that include survival

If you mean what you say - you get on board and fight like hell to get Biden elected by a huge margin & win the Senate too - and then leverage the help that you actually delivered to get things to swing in the direction that you want.

Your prediction came true.

I’m as stunned as you are.

If I were advising AoC , I would tell her to pick some priorities, and finish with the wish list/fantasy approach to governing.
Care about climate change? Great. Make that your major issue, and drop the GND bullshit which has almost nothing to do with climate change. Get some science advisers.

Right! This fucker is literally tweeting about getting rid of Fauci and using his executive powers to open up the country. If nothing else, it’s completely tone deaf for the moment we’re in. Threatening Biden just isn’t even remotely helpful right now.
