AOC Bats Down Misguided ‘Scandal’ Over Bernie Nomination At DNC

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Tuesday night refuted accusations that she had gone rogue by nominating Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) during her 2020 Democratic National Convention speech, pointing out that the party had asked her to do so in accordance to standard convention rules.

This sort of crap from the ‘mainstream’ media - proves once again that there IS NO ‘LIBERAL MEDIA’.

As I constantly point out to a tRump relation, “If there had been a liberal media, we never would have gone to war in Iraq or Afghanistan.”

So @NBCNews how are you going to fix the incredible amount of damage and misinformation that you are now responsible for?”

were already in the next news cycle, so don’t expect any backtracking.
well, maybe a mention in passing.

And don’t keep the issue alive by caring it into the next news cycle. Make your actions and words of unity the story of the next several news cycles.

The rules require someone to nominate the candidate. The rules do not require AOC to do it. It was gross and counterproductive to what needs to be a united front. And I say that as someone who agrees with AOC way more often than not.

It’s good that AOC is calling them out on their “misguided” reporting:

AOC’s Response

You waited several hours to correct your obvious and blatantly misleading tweet.

It sparked an enormous amount of hatred and vitriol, & now the misinfo you created is circulating on other networks.

All to generate hate-clicks from a pre-recorded, routine procedural motion. https://t.co/crDlEymgMD

NBC’s correction:

Editor's note and clarification (2/2):

Ocasio-Cortez was asked by the DNC to second Sanders' nomination. The nomination is a procedural requirement of the convention.

Ocasio-Cortez has previously endorsed Biden, & her speech was similar in length to other nominating speeches.

I agree, as I read the first story on AOC this morning the first, second and third thing I thought was MORE OF THE MSM TRYING TO GENERATE A CONTROVERSY. AOC did exactly what is done in any democracy, second the nomination of a candidate who had earned a place within the convention and earned the right to have his/her name placed into consideration. This is a nominating convention not the crowning of a designated strongman.

I do have one issue with those running the convention. That is of giving the younger generation of leaders very little chance to shine. It would have been well worth the 20 or 30 minutes of added time to allow the viewers a chance to see, in one place, those that are coming along. Big mistake, one I hope the Dems don’t regret.

I’m sure that NBC and the MSM will be equally vigilant during the RNC, aren’t you??

I think AOC has a point. She was playing a scripted part in a giant infomercial. Nobody in the convention pageant has gone rogue.

That’s IT! I’m DONE with her! How DARE she BETRAY Joe Biden and the DEMOCRATIC PARTY by promoting a QUIXOTIC and RIDICULOUS last-ditch effort to do an END RUN around JOE BIDEN and nominate that SOCIALIST who never did a DAMN thing in his LIFE!!!

Oh, wait, this was standard nominating process procedure? Never mind…

Not to don my usual apologist hat but this could very well be sloppiness and inexperience, not maliciousness. Late in the morning, social media, that suggests to me this was a chore handed off to an intern or some other low-level person who simply assumed AOC had gone her own way and ran with it. News organizations uniformly have chased out their most experienced employees to cut costs, and it could well be that anyone who knew the convention rules got a buyout years ago. Just saying. Could be less innocent explanations, I sure wasn’t there.

She didn’t seem to mind. And I say that as someone who agrees with you way more often than not.

I’ll say this…AOC knows how to fight and she does not play.

The older I get the less angry I tend to be, or impulsive. This may well have been shoddy journalism…or yellow journalism. What it wasn’t was…real journalism. You either report what actually happened and why, or you suck at your actual job (which is not carrying water for either side).

Then why does she hate Murca so much?!? I didn’t see a single hubcap-sized lapel flag pin on her!

You didn’t hear it from me, but @rascal_crone was sent pictures by @castor_troy of you leaving the scene. Just saying.
