A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.
After she and her fellow GOP senators killed legislation codifying abortion rights, Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) insisted via Twitter on Wednesday night that overturning Roe v. Wade “would not ban abortion,” just “send the decision back to your state.”
I guess we’re just marking time now until midterms.
It’s going to be crucial to the future of the country to get the hook and pull these morons off the stage. These poisonous GQP’ers need to be sent packing and leave the governing to the adults.
The defining characteristic of modern conservative politics is the search for power (positive outcomes) without any responsibility (for pushback or negative outcomes). It is clear that the GOP has been on a decades-long crusade to ban abortion. Now that this seems to be a possibility, none of them will own it. The “Daddy Party” has become the ‘Slacker Party’. As an aside, while all of this nonsense is going on, critical issues like climate change and growing income inequality remain ignored.
“We are Republicans. We are responsible for nothing, ever. Not our actions, not even the words out of our mouths, which we often can’t even hear. Nothing. Ever.”
And when asked for an opinion or comment on what ANY other prominent Republican has said or written, about ANYTHING, they haven’t heard or read it, so have nothing to add. They have no exposure or access to reports on anything a GOPer says, yet are quick to comment on whatever any Dem has made public.
The midterms? If we’re lucky enough to hold the current make up of Congress at the mid-terms, despite everything that stands against that possibility, it just means two more years of GQP and “moderate” Dems blocking legislation that the majority of US citizens want. Then we get another presidential election where a minority of the country complains that Dems didn’t keep their promises.
