And they lowered their standards even more today, so he has a good shot.
A) I was responding directly to a comment.
B) Democrats and progressives, like NYT writers and editors, are not immune from being racists, sexists, and antisemites.
C) These boards aren’t for Democrats only. Some of us can think independently from towing partisan lines.
Moderator note:
This post has been selectively edited by removing a reference to another poster’s child.
I can’t believe I have to actually say this but please keep references to other posters’ children out of your arguments.
I am, however, leaving “towing” as it is rather than making a change to correct “toeing”.
What people write is a reflection of who they are and I wouldn’t want to leave folks with the wrong impression.
This is more like Alfred E. Neumann Mad Magazine level humor from their holiday season edition.
Rarely do you find sincerely good people in the upper echelons of corporate power.
It’s almost as if there’s a crappy culture at the Times. Almost.
But I’m sure Dean Baquet is too busy making sure that the Times isn’t some wing of the “resistance” to notice.
But it’s OK to attack a poster’s minor child by name if you don’t like what they say…
Got it.
#DocumentedHypocrite
Good.
Seems like the Times should be more careful to whom they lend their reputation. Problem with posting your shit anonymously like I do is that nobody really gives a damn what I think. But the upside is, I still have a job.
The piece includes quotes from the likes of Seb Gorka, U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell and Donald Trump Jr. adviser Arthur Schwartz.
WTF??? DT, Jr. has an adviser??? Does this mean that DT, Jr. receives advice on how to be an idiot dipshit? Well, you get what you pay for.
Georgeh is quite the scold, evidently, and ad hominem attacks are inappropriate for anyone else, but ok for Georgeh?
Very big non-secret: our corridors of power are neither democratic nor meritocratic. Loyalty counts more than anything else.
Lott resigned as majority leader in, what, 2003? It’s clearly not at the same Party today. There is no level of racism or bigotry in which the Republican Party will impose consequences to Donald Trump.
Biden is an interesting case and a mixed bag. I cringe at some of the things he’s said and done, but at least some of the policies he supported were in a different era and supported by other Dems as well. Certainly doesn’t seem enlightened by today’s standards. He, I believe, needs to do better, but is not in any way comparable to Republicans who depend on white supremacists as a crucial voting block.
The NYTimes should do a deep dive into its HR department. They obviously did not do a proper job of vetting this guy before hiring him.
i’m glad to (figuratively) know @irasdad.
it would have been easy to curse a certain person out, because family is family. He kept his cool and he’s one the best things about TPM.
What I was going to say. There are some exceptions: Biden comes to mind, and some overreactions: see Al Franken. Nevertheless, by and large, the Dems, the left, progressives, whatever, caught out tend to apologize and often see their power and/or position diminished. But the Reps rarely apologize or suffer consequences, and in Donny’s case, either double down or claim they never said what yesterday’s tape shows them saying.
False equivalence.
Amen to this!!
I want to understand what seems to be a broader pattern.
A few others have hinted at possible explanations:
Is that all there is to it?
Why does it seem like the powerful routinely select for garbage humans? Is it that the powerful are just as human and flawed as everyone else, and their flaws are simply writ larger – i.e. one racist or antisemitic hiring manager can elevate multiple fellow travelers? Is it that having a few nasty traits is really common, and we simply tend to discover it in folks who are subject to intense scrutiny?
It can’t all be Trump rallying deplorables across the country, because a lot of these folks had their positions pre-Trump.
@georgeh is a classic troll, attacking victims while propping up perpetrators, ignoring facts, doubling down on idiocy, etc. I suspect he is paid for his work. If not, then it’s merely his dogmatic zeal that drives his posts. Either way, I highly suggest ignoring him. He is the textbook definition of “not worth your time.”
