Americans Think That Maybe These Two Shouldn't Be Talking About God

‘Do So With the Truth’ It’s not just the evangelicals who were incensed and wringing their hands at President Trump’s blasphemy after he shared an AI-generated painting of himself healing the sick, depicted as Jesus Christ alongside a series of patriotic images and people praying to him. A Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll out today has…

Eighty-seven percent of Americans overall indicated that they disliked Trump’s Truth Social post where he depicted himself as Jesus, and that includes 79 percent of Republicans surveyed.

Sorry, but blah blah blah Those Republicans will still walk on glass if Trump tells them too and then blame Biden when their feet are bleeding. They can’t quit him and literally nothing he can say or do will change this.

To back up my comment about GOP above:

63% of residents nationally place a great deal or good amount of blame on President Trump. This includes 89% of Democrats, 32% of Republicans, and 63% of independents. 37% place little or no blame for the increased price of gas on the president.

So, 58% of Republicans don’t link Trump to increase in gas prices. I would wager to bet that at least a third of them would blame Biden for the increase if the question was posed. We need to stop caring what they think. They are unreachable. And as shown by the results in Indiana yesterday, they do as they are told.

It says a lot that the Trump administration is not concerned that the head of the FBI is a bug-eyed dipsomaniac, but is instead freaking out trying to discover WHO TOLD EVERYONE?!?!?!?!?!

the government would seek to use the Westfall Act to swap Trump for the U.S. as the defendant in the lawsuit. That would require dismissal of the case because the federal government can’t be sued for defamation

In what possible world could this be allowed? Trump was sued personally, not as President and groping Ms. Carroll cannot possibly be seen as one of the duties of the office WHEN HE WASN’T IN OFFICE AT THE TIME! *&^%$#@!

On the other hand, with THIS supreme court, it could be in this possible world….

The legal theory being that Shitler and the government are one in the same.

Meanwhile, Fitzpatrick has another scoop: Patel is, she writes, handing out personalized bottles of Woodford Reserve bourbon.

Nice bottle. Certainly helps dispel the “rumors” that he’s a black-out drunk.

The C.S. Lewis quote might need a wee bit of updating by adding “and those pretending to be religious are the very worst.”

This isn’t the sexual assault case, it’s the later defamation case. He was in office when he defamed her in 2019. The question is whether Trump was acting within the scope of his employment when he defamed her. In a defamation case involving a US Congressman the court said:

the proper test is whether the underlying conduct, not the tortious act – “was the kind of conduct [the Congressman] was employed to perform.” The court explained, “Congressman Murtha’s alleged attempts to discredit Defense Secretary Rumsfeld’s management of the war in Iraq … were directly tied to his congressional political agenda and thus cannot support a claim that the Congressman acted outside the scope of his employment.”

I find it hard to believe that Trump’s defamation of Ms. Carroll was directly tied to his political agenda, but as you correctly noted, “with THIS supreme court.”

approving of Trump right now

“Approve” is a bit loaded. Except for insurrectionists and billionaires, no Trump supporter is very happy with him, and I can’t imagine anything performative on his part that would help right now.

Donald’s making money. Republican voters are not. That 25-gallon F150 truck is much more fun to drive at $2.50 per instead of $5.00.

Thank You, @coimmigrant , for that clarification. It is an important distinction and may just be a big enough eye in this particular needle for the camels on SCOTUS to jump through.

If the Supreme Court overturns the Carol verdict…

Well, it’s too damn late for them to prove they’re not corrupt. Way too late. Whether they do or they don’t side with the rapist over the victim, the institution needs radical change, and Thomas needs to be in jail. Alito needs to be in hell, but I’ll take retired if that’s the best I can get.

to use the Westfall Act to swap Trump for the U.S. as the defendant in the lawsuit

Per Wikipedia, Westfall

is a law passed by the United States Congress that modifies the Federal Tort Claims Act to protect federal employees from common law tort lawsuit while engaged in their duties for the government

IANAL but there seem to be two obvious problems with this approach. First, the Carroll case concerns events prior to his being in public office so how could he have been “engaged in their duties for the government,”? Second, isn’t it a bit cynical to imagine that rape is a duty for the government, even in the age of Trump?
