In part, I think it is. But I also think that when one spouts thIs drivel day after day, you begin to lose a sense of yourself and come to believe your own twaddle. So it may have started out as an “acting job” for these unfortunates, but through time, the nonsense at least becomes partially integrated into their web of beliefs.

People are usually pretty good at sussing out when you aren’t committed to what you are saying. Whenever Trump is forced to make a statement on something he doesn’t support, we all can immediately see his discomfiture; routinely referencing his “hostage video” stance.
So for these people to day-after-day present bullshit as fact, to make it convincing, they have to start believing it to some extent.
