Alito Pens Decision That 'Eviscerates' The Voting Rights Act

The Roberts Court finally achieved its years-long goal of killing the Voting Rights Act Wednesday, publishing a ruling that, the liberal justices say, will make proving racial discrimination in redistricting virtually impossible. “Under the Court’s new view of Section 2, a State can, without legal consequence, systematically dilute minority citizens’ voting power,” wrote Justice Elena…

We knew it was coming. That doesn’t make it any easier.

I don’t have any cat photos on this computer to ease the blow.

Bet he has a chapter in his book on it, too.

Correct. Dems in all blue states like mine (NJ) should really rush to gerrymander. I’ll give credit to Newsom in CA for being aggressive. We should be as well. We are gonna win midterms, keep that in mind. We really will clean up regardless.

That’s what I was trying to decipher from the Guardian article.

So, race of color can no longer be used to gerrymander. Got it.

This is going to be a very dark (and no pun intended) period in judicial history, which is going to have to be resolved by a future bench.

Unpopular Opinion:

Packing minority voters into minority-majority districts dilutes overall minority voting strength. And nobody in the lily-white districts that result is going to give a shit about the minority’s concerns.

It seems like this Supreme Court will never do anything to help protect America from this president.

It’s not a ‘seems’ concept - they haven’t. And they never will as long as the current bench exists.

I hope so. But it’s an all hands situation. Much more riding on this election. “You’ll never have to vote again,” the president says.

The Monarchist Six strike again! Now for the redistricting “race to the bottom” in advance of the midterms.

The only hope is that they create a bunch of new 55-45 districts that lead to a clean sweep for the Democrats if they outperform the models by >10%. Then we must use the supermajority to pass laws against gerrymandering and create an independent redistricting commission.

And those Supreme Court justices would know, wouldn’t they. This president says he is against “lawfare.” Don’t those Supreme Court justices know that?

So these justices have decided that a 60 year old law needs to be tweaked in order to make it read the way they want it. Not to protect the vote of all people, just the ones the justices like.

I’m curious about what flag will Mrs. Alito be raising today at her house?

Justice Kagan wrote “I dissent” six times, never using the word “respectfully”. I concur.

The Supreme Court is opposed to racial gerrymandering, but approves racial profiling. Not going to bother trying to figure this one out.

Remember when it was considered “scaremongering” to support Hillary Clinton because allowing Donald Trump to seat justices to the Supreme Court could be devastating?

Good times.

They reveal themselves daily. America was hijacked by the church, the confederacy, and money. Trick is, it’s our money they want, and our money they did it with.
