Justice Samuel Alito and the conservative majority changed almost nothing in the opinion published on Friday, making practically the same draft ruling leaked to Politico in May the law of the land.
It’s a power play, not a legitimate ruling. Pretty much on-brand for drunk-on-their-recent-power wingnuts.
The leak was purposeful. It gaged how the RWNJs felt. They don’t give a shit about the center or left. Hell, they don’t give a shit about the center-right.
Just as I feared. All those winger 'agenda items" that the a conservative Congress could not do can easily be done , by the stroke of a pen, by a right wing Supreme court. Look for the court do do away with all the privacy right decisions - especially striking down the Constitutional right to contraception> And it won’t stop at those rights base on privacy. Expect the to eventually get rid of that huge right-wing bugaboo— Social Security and Medicare.
Alito and his fellow anti abortion zealots just want to stick it to “da libz,” so why do a thing?
They are all politicians in robes, all of them, and he’s a Republican. Republican politics is asshole politics. He doesn’t give a shit. It’s about the power of being an asshole.
It’s the power to hurt and it’s sick.
It’s hard to believe that we let Putin’s hand-picked judges codify these rules.
Because overturning Roe was one of their goals too. They just regret having to turn over their party to Trump to do so.
This is disgusting. To think the decision was handed down by justices like Amy Covid Barret, who was basically bum rushed through while RBG’s body was still warm, and Neil Gorsuch, whose seat should have been filled by President Obama almost a whole year before the fucking election. Less those two justices and this decision would not have happened.
The decision and its implications is awful in and of itself but I think how it came to be is even worse. The Democrats put up little resistance and when they do it seems like it’s just for show. Same thing we’re seeing with AG Garland. They need to start fighting like the GQP does. You have to hand it to the GQP, they’ve been fighting to overturn this since Roe came to be and here we are. Don’t let anyone tell you this will be a quick fix. It won’t. It will be decades and decades before the reversal of Roe is reversed. Many women will die.
I just have one suggestion for Democrats. Fight. Fight. FIGHT. GOD DAMN IT FIGHT!
At this point, the leadership of the Court by Roberts is a joke. If he is honest, he would just hand the gavel over to Justice Alito. He is the new Boss Man. From this point forward, we progressives should simply refer to the SCOTUS as the Alito Court. The Roberts Court is dead and buried.
The leak in my view was intended to just let off the initial steam/anger and it worked beautifully.
The sick lies emanating from the US Supreme Court majority opinion will haunt this country until they are debunked and expunged as having little, if any, legal merit. Our country’s dark period has gotten darker this day. And it will take rooting out corruption at the Federal and state levels to finally be rid of the hypocrisy and small-mindedness represented by the current Court majority and the corrupt political party that put these justices on the bench. The erosion of the respect for the rule of law and individual body autonomy and the rights of individuals to make their own decisions about their body needs to be slowed, stopped, and reversed. To not do this, to continue to erode the rights of individuals to make decisions about things like child-birth and who they want to spend their lives with, etc, should not be so impinged upon by the small minded majority of Supreme Court Justices. A sad day indeed is today.
Gee, I wonder how the investigation to find the leaker is going. The Real Leaker is around here somewhere …

Well, the draft opinion was perfectly mediocre and juvenile and one could read the nyah nyah nyah between the lines with ease since it was basically one long troll by Alito. It could have been posted on Twitter. In a lot of pieces obviously, nevertheless, I’m ashamed that it is an opinion of the SCOTUS. It’s just terrible law and a badly done majority opinion. It reminds me of the first drafts written by legal clerks, kids right out of law school who don’t know a damn thing and clerk for a judge for a year. It just doesn’t rise to the level of a SCOTUS opinion. And when I think of Douglas’ prose in Roe. Goddamn them for overturning something on such stupid bases - it didn’t heal the country. And this will? You motherfuckers do not care.
