The Supreme Court majority’s radicalization on trans issues has become apparent not just in its unusual willingness to take up so many cases on the topic, but in its eagerness to shoehorn anti-trans refrains into unrelated cases. Justice Samuel Alito, dissatisfied with the double header cases on trans women in sports before him, pivoted to…
Nothing like some grown men who are going to mess up a lot of lives because anything other than occasional, missionary position sex just scares the shit out of them, and it makes them feel icky.
Seems like I heard a bit of news on NPR this week about a study done in England which is proving that trans women in sports MAKES NO DIFFERENCE. If they are good athletes, they win, if they aren’t they lose…just like every woman on the team.
Gotta look that up and see if I can find the origin of that study.
Addendum: I thought the referenced broadcast was on BBC , but I cannot seem to locate it. It may have been a BBC contribution to NPR evening news. Can’t find it on NPR archives either, though…sorry.
You know the sports issue is more complicated than Fox news or right wingers vs the world. The reason there are mens competitions and womens competitions is that otherwise women would NEVER win anything. Look at marathon runners or sprinters or skiers or many many other sports the mens times are faster, longer higher whatever. Putting gender identified is not the same as biological sex which for physical acts like sports there is an advantage to the Y chromosome leading to larger bones, less body percent fat and taller, etc. and it makes a difference. Respect Trans people allow them to define themselves – but have a binary or no sex defined category for them to compete in – that’s what the NY Road Runners has for their marathons. Men’s Women’s and binary.
Trans rights, another small culture war allowing Republicans to drive a wedge between working class people and Democrats. It feels like ground hogs day.
“Boys who can’t make the boys team will transition to female so they can be on the girls’ team.”
This bespeaks more than total ignorance of what the experience of transitioning entails for the trans person, particularly transitioning from male to female. You become, in a moment, an object of blind and ignorant hatred by people like the GOP Scotus justices, who, as here, base their objections to you precisely on that ignorance. “I don’t know you, and I’m not even going to bother to try to imagine what it’s like to be you, but I’m going to invent a bunch of ignorant shit to justify my contempt and hatred for you.”
Once again, these pompous blowhards decide they know more than anyone with experience or expertise. Even when the venue is hearing from people who actually do have legitimate evidence. “Forget your facts, I will believe what I want to believe!” What a way to run a “supreme” court!
Democrats lost 2 out of the last three elections because of those “deplorable suckers.” When you are in a hole the first thing you need to do is stop digging.
Blatant obvious ugly ignorance of Kavanaugh, Roberts, Alito, Barrett. So ignorant that they do not get it at all. There needs to be a test for judges about the meaning and practice of bigotry.
There are a ton of solutions out there - kids in sports can be judged not by sex, but by time in appropriate sports for example - but these bigoted loads only want to out-load eachother. My only hope is they have to confront those they have judged in their own private lives
I suspect, since the entire focus is on SPORTS, that it’s an issue for the various individual sports associations. For example, target shooting isn’t something men or women have an inherent advantage at. So keep it open to all sexes. Sprinting, probably not. But let the groups of coaches, sports medicine folks, and participants make the decisions for their own sports, in which they hold the most expertise.
The “Supreme” Court knows as much about these gender issues as it does about medical insurance, pregnancy, permissible levels of toxic chemicals and radiation, or any other non-legal technical issue. That is, bupkis. They’re at the mercy of the lawyers for “enlightenment.”
This presupposes that the women’s team is as lucrative as being on the men’s team. And a person would have to be a real simpleton to think that. (Not to say there aren’t any…)
The money is the key here. It’s the primary motivator for (Republican-leaniong) Americans.
I really despair how blind too many liberals are to the harm of gender ideology on society at large. This discussion group is a prime example of the bubble the “liberal intelligentsia” is in on this one issue and the broad harm it does to our liberal brand as the fact-based party. Exactly one comment above dealt with the issue rationally, stating that male and female bodies are different, and male bodies have numerous advantages in sport. The reality is that a great many liberals are not on board with the idea that people can change their sex (they can’t), that sex isn’t binary (it is), but also remain silent about it because very real harm can be done to them in the workplace and in social groups if they disagree. There are reasons why laws were built around single sex spaces and activities, all hinging on the fact that males (men) and females (women) are different and women need rights to single sex spaces and activities. The harms done to women who self-exclude because transwomen are allowed access are not even considered in this bubble. I hate beyond measure that liberals have gifted terrible people this issue to use against us, an issue that resonates because the vast majority of humanity knows men can’t be women, and women can’t be men, and the two sexes are fundamentally different. The headline of this article sets the stage with “Fox news anti-trans talking points” when, in fact, those talking points are about protecting the rights of women and girls. Please note that this is an issue about men (transwomen) intruding on women’s spaces, not women (transmen) intruding on men’s spaces and “taking their stuff” because transmen are, by definition, women and not capable of pushing men out of the way, not cacapble of beating men at sport, not a threat to men in male only spaces. I am quite aware that my comment here will provoke a lot of anger, because liberals refuse to grasp that they (my community) are in a bubble on this.
