how about “because Trump is the inevitable nominee, they want to project an image of party unity, and save their resources for the general election”. That is what Democrats would say under the circumstances – and its a perfectly legitimate reason.
actually, that was one of Trump’s more coherent moments. He didn;t stray much from the topic at hand, which was a doozie. It sounds to me like he’s repeating what he was told by the Generals when he decided to attack Iran – to get him to back off, they told him that its “so much stronger to show restraint”.
And because it needed to be explained to him, he feels compelled to explain it to everyone else. I mean, “most people don’t know that showing restraint is a sign of strength. But its true. But most people have no idea.”

Instead of primaries, I suggest they hold “Affirmation Ceremonies” in each state, in Trump-owned properties of course, to which the national and state RNC will very generously make a fair “donation”, in which every GOP delegate is required to affirm their total and tremendous support for Bigly Beautiful Dear Leader and that they’d go to the literal ends of the earth for him because he and the party and state are one and the same, with anyone failing to do so being put on a “list”. If the incumbent is going to run for reelection, it must be with total and unquestioned support from his minions.
Btw, an aside, but I’m kind of starting to get this whole total and unquestioned faith in an invisible supreme being mandating all sorts of crazy behavior nonsense that some people refer to as “religion” and “god”, seeing how devoted most Repubs are to their own Dear Leader. Psychologically, and putting aside the moral codes and specific rites and rules, of most religions, there is quite literally no meaningful difference in my view. Some people appear to be wired for, and just have to believe in and be blindly loyal to, some arbitrary higher power, or else they’re lost and confused. God, Trump, no real difference.
Oh, one other aside, we have some version of these loyalty fetishists on our side too, the ones who always condemn Dems who dare criticize party leaders like Pelosi, Schumer or Obama, variously claiming that it’s disloyal, weakens their power, hurts their feelings, sows dissent in the ranks and disunity in the party, questions their wisdom, turns voters against them, and so on, or some similar such idiocy. It’s rarely as bad as it is on the other side, thankfully, but that it exists at all is bad enough.
Democracy = Dissent, PERIOD.

Even John Boehner said Trump is doing everything right policy wise. Boehner was not a moderate, but certainly not an extremist either because the Freedom Caucus gave him more headaches than anyone else.
Trump is getting more accomplished for the right-wing agenda than any other Republican president in recent history. Sure, there’s chaos and distractions daily, but beyond the daily distractions and orchestrated chaos, Trump is changing our democracy at a dangerously rapid pace. If you’re a Republican, conservative, libertarian or just part of the one percent, what’s not to like about what he’s doing?

Ah yes. The complete rule of the majority. The Reps don‘t want to bother to even pretend to listen to minority voices. No wonder they don’t pay attention to scientists, economists, foreign policy specialists the intelligence community, or, frankly, anyone who says anything they don‘t want to hear.

I have to call bs on this idea, AND its because this isn’t a matter of what the average person would or would not approve of. This is about the political process and how we chose our leaders. What’s wrong with holding primaries when you have an incumbent running for reelection? Oh yeah, the incumbent might have to face challengers, and might get bumped off because voters are pissed about policies and voting records.
Look, tRump is a big baby. He only operates in environments where he feels people around him are protecting him- where he does think he’s going to face any real opposition, which is why only ONE tRump rally was cancelled- folks in Chicago were ready for him. These state GOPs feel he’s a winner for them, but his coattails ain’t too great, and they know it. They’re afraid Republican voters might want to have a say in this election- especially in states where tRump’s tariffs have an impact on GOP voters.
Dems do need to latch onto this and make Republicans give a public answer for killing primaries, or should I say, stifling the voices of Republican voters
