Alabama Will Try Its Redistricting Luck At The Supreme Court…Again

Alabama officials appealed Tuesday to the Supreme Court, seeking intervention so they can use a congressional map awfully similar to the one said Supreme Court knocked down less than three months ago.

So SC can take the case, hear arguments then rule in June it’s too close to change for '24bbut needs to be fixed for th '26 midterms.

Proper course for the SCOTUS is to decline the case. Alabama had it’s chance to make its map compliant with the VRA and failed to do so.

Unfortunately, there are probably at least four votes to grant cert, so back in front of the Supreme Court it will go.

SCOTUS doesn’t have to take the appeal and probably won’t. And the lower court ruling will remain in effect – basically securing the court-drawn map unless SCOTUS issues a stay – so this is a clear Hail Mary from the AL legislature and the rest of the white supremacist government there.

Wasn’t there an article (either here or on another liberal site about the Alabama GOP deliberately charting this course because they had “inside intell” that Kavanaugh might be open to changing his vote on appeal?

You think the State of Alabama has sufficient money to pay one of the conservative justices who voted against the map the last time to change his or her mind or are they basing this all on the daydream that racism doesn’t exist in America.

Just another delay to kick the can down another election cycle… if they get a hearing they might secure a “too close to election” ruling to keep the maps for '24.

Then they plot their other shenanigans for then…

Rinse, repeat…

State of Alabama? No.

Harlan Crow? He might have an extra seat on his private jet or private yacht.

Yikes…a Justice flipping his vote due to a State openly defying a SCOTUS order and getting a second whack at it would bring literal chaos to the nation. Why obey the SCOTUS when you can just ignore, and hope over time one of them dies/replaced or gets purchased? They’re be no incentive for any 5-4 ruling to be obeyed if states thought they might flip a single jurist by trying it a second time.

Want to be sure everyone’s heard about this, someone who trumpet has said he’d pardon as president.

Bravely standing up for the principle of systemic racism which doesn’t exist.

It looks like the judge was lenient on Enrique Tarrio and gave him only 22 years because he ratted on the white nationalist christian coup leaders.

Skanky should plead guilty in exchange for a 231 year sentence. This would be a great deal because he stands to be sentenced for 462 years for the 96 crimes he is charged with.

I guess some folks in Alabama hafta get spanked repeatedly in court for the lesson to take hold.

It won’t take hold. It will escalate.

Issuing a pardon to Tarrio is a slap in America’s face and I see it as a tacit admission of his(trump’s) own guilt. I don’t have the evidence but I think trump and Tarrio communicated thru intermediaries to plan and execute the assault on the Capitol. They meant to capture members and hold them hostage. I have an image on my laptop of a masked guy with zip ties in his hand going thru the house chamber looking for members. We all remember the chant about killing Mike Pence.
Treason requires someone declaring war on the country. Seditious conspiracy is the non-war version of the same thing. To me that makes Tarrio a traitor. I don’t say that lightly either.

Game is they hope to get CJ Colorblind schedule it so that it can’t possibly be resolved before November 2024 and then be able to use whatever the fuck they feel like using. Stick it on the fall schedule in 2024 and say “oh well, nothing to be done about it this election cycle since we have to have SOME districting map in place for the voting”.

Maybe Harlan “Anita Blackhawk” Crow’s check to Beerboy finally cleared?

If Cavanaugh does flip this then he is signalling there is no reason for anybody to pay attention to the Supreme Court ever again.
