There are exceptions, including for people with certain medical conditions, exercising and some work activities. Ivey previously called a statewide mask order unenforceable.

And for some unexplainable reason, Gov. Ivey reminds me of an old, lame joke I first heard in a gay bar in Chicago around 1977: “Did you hear the one about the little Dutch boy who put his finger in the dyke and got no response?”

An exception for exercising? Like in a gym? Do they understand they’re dealing with a virus here, most commonly transmitted indoors through (checks notes) breathing? Yep. The “exercise” exception includes “Any person who is actively engaged in exercise in a gym or other athletic facility if he or she maintains six feet of separation from persons of another household.”

That’s crazy. The six-feet thing is, as I understand it, based on an outmoded understanding of what sort of particles you breathe out and how far they can travel. And the fact that it’s enclosed just makes it much, much worse. You’re crazy to be in a gym at all IMHO, masked or not, but without is nuts.

The US cannot expect to make progress in health, safety, income disparity, and general quality of life, until there is a Second Southern Reconstruction.
Look at yesterday. Jeff Sessions was a thoroughly reactionary, retrograde, and racist individual. But – he would stop short of breaking the law or lying for Trump. The one glimmer of redemptive behavior was precisely what DISQUALIFIED him in the eyes of Alabama GOP primary voters.
Instead, they chose Tommy Potatotown, er, Tuberville, solely because Trump had endorsed him. If Trump had pardoned some notorious serial killer sitting on death row, and set him up to run for office in Alabama, he’d at least win the Republican primary – and maybe the general.
