Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) on Sunday came to his colleague Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s (R-AK) defense following backlash from former President Trump and the Alaska Republican Party over her vote to convict Trump for “incitement of insurrection.”
Sullivan’s statement was hardly a “defense;” at best it showed a modicum of loyalty towards a fellow Republican, a trait his peers would be unlikely to assign a great deal of blame for.
I am so sick of these state GOPs and their un-American BS. They don’t adhere to the LAW or the Constitution but BY GOD AND BY TRUMP you should screw over this country or they are out to get you. ESPECIALLY the AK GOP who is fighting their Republican colleagues in STATE government so they can be run by the ANTI ANTI ANYTHING NON-WHITE minority in Alaska. True garbage.
Shorter Sullivan: “I’m all-in for Trump, I support the White Wing American Nationalist movement, right there behind you all on everything about destroying democracy, but hey, you know, the Murkowskis are still pretty powerful up here in Alaska, so I gotta cover my bases. Don’t be too hard on me.”
Don’t look now, but between Sullivan standing up for Murkowski, Mo Brooks backing away from the insurrectionists yesterday, and Cheney beating back potential changes to the Wyoming Republican primary, Trump is hemorrhaging support.
Does he even know he’s on quite the losing streak? It makes me wonder if Republicans know which way the Garland DoJ wind is blowing.
I’ve thought this often, and it’s playing out about as I figured. Trump remains popular with his peeps, but the power he had is rapidly leaching away. Murkowski remains a United States senator; you might want her help some time. Trump is a private citizen with troubles of his own.
I honestly think you’re not giving enough weight to Brooks walk back of parts of the interview he gave to AL.com. It’s a game, or a game plan. Rile up the Republican base, when questioned backtrack for the moderates, and then trash the backtrack to the base to show how unfair the press is by putting words in his mouth.
You’re probably right, but for Brooks to have to even play this game in a deep red state that elected Tuberville, and almost elected Roy Moore is saying something. Usually Republican candidates are fighting to see who can be the Trumpiest, as in Ohio. If he’s making political calculations in Alabama, that’s not good for Trump.
I’m imagining that old comedy bit where newly minted privates are standing at attention when the drill sergeant asks for a volunteer, and all takes one step back leaving some shmoo standing there.
