Worst-Case Scenario Avoided Maybe my standards are slipping and I’m resigning myself to levels of corruption that I heretofore would not have tolerated, but I was actually relieved by U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon’s ruling yesterday barring the public release of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s report on the Mar-a-Lago documents case. To my mind, the…

Hard as it may be able to believe, by the time we go to bed tonight, our country will be even weaker and its bank accounts - fiscal, world esteem, adversary respect – will dwindle even more as our hegemonic suicide continues at a record rate. Reflecting on this, many factors are causing this, but the two decisive causes for this state of affairs to my mind are the abject political cowardice of Congressional Republicans and the unparalleled corruption of the Supreme Court. That cowardice and corruption will undo the Republican Party. Sadly it already undid our Country.
Our friends in arms have a bit more homework than usual as we brace for tonight’s conflagration. One from Heather, one from Paul, one from Tim and a cross interview between Tim and Paul:
… and a prediction from Andy Borowitz.
“After Redactions Trump’s State of the Union Will Be Seventeen Seconds Long.”
If only.
It’s a good morning for some Canadian whisky. J. P. Wiser’s 24 Year old if you can afford it. Gibson’s 12 Year if your wallet’s about a thick as mine.
Nixon was bad, an insecure, criminally minded person, but Trump makes “Tricky Dick” look like a choir boy!
Eric Schmitt in the New York Times this morning:
Trump Says Top General Predicts Easy Victory Over Iran; He Says Otherwise in Private
The remarks differ from what Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is said to have told the president in high-level White House meetings.
___
Mr Schmitt, sirrah, are you calling the President of the United States a liar?
Mark Kelly’s comment at the end, about the SOTU, shows what he’s made of
“This guy thought I would be in in jail,” Kelly told reporters Monday. “Wants to send me to prison."
Still, he said he would attend Trump’s State of the Union speech Tuesday. “I’m gonna continue to do my job, and I’m going to be sitting there right in front of him, he said. “You know, maybe he’ll notice, maybe not, but I feel it’s my obligation, you know, to be there.”
Then a follow up question for CF-DJT: “Define what victory over Iran looks like?”
I did say yesterday the leaks are coming from the generals about how stupid TSFs “plans” are. The US shale oil producers are rubbing their wallets in anticipation though.
Riddle me this. The military is blowing up boat after boat in the Caribbean. Any drug dealer with an IQ over 60 knows at this point not to run drugs on the water. So who are we killing?
… in the latest tranche of documents published at the end of January. NPR’s investigation found dozens of pages that appear to be catalogued by the Justice Department but not shared publicly.
Since, “Bill Barr would’ve covered this up,” was an active answer to questions about the Epstein files here in the not too distant past, I’m wondering, if he had, wouldn’t similar lacunae have been left behind?
And, wouldn’t such absences in the record have invited an investigation that might have led to him?
I would like to hear suggestions on pro-active, jab jab jabbing the states could be doing to protect their voting process and warn off hackers and Chump and ICE and every other group thinking of trying to intimidate voters; and ‘investigate’ all the 2016, 2020, and 2024 efforts at intrusion and manipulation.
But instead it looks like Blue and Purple states are just gearing up for how to fight back AFTER being repeatedly punched and absorbing all the ‘inevitable’ onslaught.
Just wondering, can Nosy pull that drawer shut to protect herself from the indignity?
So now we’re faced with a burning question. Will Trump listen to the generals, or the shale oil producers? Oh, if only we had a crystal ball…
