Republican legislators in several states are responding to the pandemic-prompted surge in vote-by-mail during the primaries by trying to make the process more difficult going forward.
They also don’t want to reveal their sources for restricting voting legislation.
Remember how OH wanted to dump voters off of voting rolls because they hadn’t voted in 2 elections, nor return/responded to a post card they the SoS sent out? Well wouldn’t they have the info they so desperately wanted with return to sender absentee applications for ballots?
I still get a chuckle out of the people in Michigan, my state, that held a rally to BURN their absentee ballot applications because Gretchen had them mailed to out to all the registered voters in the state. That protest didn’t catch fire.
No, they do not. There is proof through their actions and through their words. They know that on a level playing field they would be swept out of office. They can only retain the minority party power they do by manipulation and outright cheating.
In 7 of the last 8 presidential election voters have shown they prefer Democrats to Republicans but that did not necessarily stop Republicans from taking office in all 7 where Republicans lost.
Or to put another way, if Republicans cared about voters, they would not be Republicans.
GOPers are attempting to show us what Trump/Barr are doing to our legal system is what they will do if Trump is reelected.
We will vote how we are told and when.
This is why regaining the Senate is so important. If the Democrats win the House, Senate, and presidency, then we will get a new voting rights act that shuts down this kind of nonsense, and puts in place real regulations that ensure all citizens can vote without interference. McConnell is already blocking bills on this that the House has passed, and that won’t change if the Republicans hold the Senate.
Really, this election requires everyone to vote out Republicans en masse, without quibbling about the Democrats not being “perfect”…they are far better than the Republicans and will progress the nation.
Since 2010, the number of whites who aren’t Hispanic had dropped by more than 16,600 people. But the decline has been escalating in the past three years, with the number of non-Hispanic whites dropping by more than a half million people from 2016 to 2019, according to the Census Bureau population estimates.
