After Dragging His Feet, CO Guv Issues Statewide Mask Mandate: ‘No Mask, No Service’

Colorado Governor Jared Polis (D) issued a statewide mask mandate Thursday afternoon, after days of pressure from his fellow Democrats to make the move.

“The data is beginning to be alarming,” Polis said.

“Beginning to be”? Having a “D” next to your name doesn’t mean you are good at numbers, it turns out.

“Look, in Colorado, there’s no shirt, no shoes, no mask, no service,”

Ah hell. I see an obvious problem now.

No mask, no service

Ok, but what about guns? Do I have to wear a gun?

God I get that this is complicated. We’ve got population dense states and some not so much. But come on we travel between states freely, and counties even more so. When something this infectious hits our shores it will travel everywhere. Not just to the urban centers.
It like all the states that didn’t do stay at home orders back in March but waited until April totally missed why there were stay at home orders. Didn’t they see what was being reported in the news, here and around the world?

Our stay-at-home order became effective on March 26 and allows local jurisdictions to enact requirements that are more restrictive than the state wide order.

Our new cases held fairly steady even after the phased reopening began in mid-June but began to rise in early July. Polis has a definite libertarian streak but he is not a fool.

No masks for children under the age of ten? Governor, children are vectors for the virus and their parents tend to shop with at least two or three if them in tow. Totally lame brained.

Are you referring to his misuse of “data” as singular?

From the Urban Dictionary.

" Chickens come home to roost

This expression is similar to “what goes around, comes around” and basically means that the consequences of one’s evil actions catch up in a negative way. The idea that a wrongful curse comes back to the one who curses as a “bird returns to its nest” dates back to the days of antiquity. However, it wasn’t until the 19th Century that Robert Southey wrote that “curses are like a young chicken: they always come home to roost.” Since then, the idea of evil men creating returns to their own door has been encapsulated in this expression.

Dude, you keep dealing drugs and you’re going to get caught. When the chickens come home to roost, they will take your car, your house, and all your money!

In Oklahoma, Norman and Tulsa have passed a mandate, and the OKC Council is voting tomorrow. Enid voted theirs down. Our Governor, bless his heart, says he isn’t considering one. But, since WalMart has one, it may be a moot point.

In fairness to Polis, here’s Colorado’s case curve:

Compare and contrast to Alabama’s:

Note also the total case numbers and remember that CO has almost 1M more people.

I can understand the reluctance of Polis to do this because it’s going to set off another round of proclamations from right wing county commissioners and sheriffs declaring the mask mandate null and void.

Hell the Colorado GOP might just try starting another recall campaign.

I’m sure Ken Buck is all over it.

And that moron Tancredo. Sat at a table next to his for dinner one night in Littleton. What a flaming arrogant moron.

I wouldn’t want to be the Walmart employee who tells someone entering the store he/she has to put a mask or they can’t shop there.

They’ve been doing it in many Walmarts in Texas for awhile now, without much pushback. I just wish that they would require wearing the mask correctly while in the store, instead of letting half the customers walk around without it covering their noses.

A few big signs saying “wearing a mask with your nose hanging out is like wearing underwear with your dick hanging out” would be helpful.

I hate to say it, but having a Trump-kissing R governor probably helps with the wingnuts in this regard. They’re very happy to protest Houston’s Dem mayor and Harris County’s Dem County Judge when they order people to wear masks; they think twice about it when it’s bad enough that Abbott orders it statewide.

Looks like Covid has been going up steadily but not exponentially in Colorado since the end of March. He is way late.

I’m convinced the surrounding states caused the uptick in NM’s numbers. I’m not pleased at all.
