After All That, Mo Brooks Heads To A Runoff In GOP Senate Primary - TPM – Talking Points Memo

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) is headed toward a runoff against fellow candidate for U.S. senator from Alabama Katie Britt. Brooks, who aggressively aligned himself with Donald Trump in the days following the 2020 election, has seen his campaign for Senate stumble amid a tumultuous on-and-off alliance with the former president.

Writes a thousand times

“The 2022 NFC Championship and the 2022 GOP Alabama primary are the same.”

Whatever happens, Mo Brooks should be swept off to the dust bin of History, where he belongs, with all the other historical anachronisms in the Rethuglican party: Like Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Greg Abbott, etc, etc, etc.

He might be the next senator.

God help us all. We might all need body armor.

Let’s see if I remember it right: Brooks was endorsed then lost the endorsement to Durant.

Then Britt surged and Durant fell and now it’s Brooks v Britt?

And neither one of them were endorsed by Trump.

And Brooks is still claiming he’s the ‘true’ MAGA guy? You know, IF Trump had just not endorsed Durant I wonder if Brooks would’ve won outright. Oh yeah, Brooks admitted that Trump ‘lost’ in 2020.

What a mess the GOP is.

I took an Alabama Republican primary ballot yesterday and voted for Katie Britt and against Mo Brooks. It seemed like the most important contested race in the state, and I can’t get Mo Brooks’s words from January 6 out of my head.

Trump withdrew his endorsement of Brooks and then did not endorse Durant or Britt or anyone in that race.

So Shelby is endorsing Britt?

Less worst?

Former aide, so I guess Shelby went with the one he knows.

Brooks is alas framing it correctly: it’s a tfg stooge versus a Moscow Mitch stooge. This is like the early days of the tfg regime, when the leaking intelligence people were temporarily the good guys.

Shelby did indeed endorse Britt, who served as his chief of staff in Washington. Britt was also the head of the Business Council of Alabama, a major lobbying and pro-business force in the state.

I think that Britt would be following closely in the footsteps of Shelby–avoid the TV cameras, build up seniority, and bring home federal dollars.

If you read her website, Britt is a standard-issue Republican on almost all fronts. She also presents to Alabama a vision of a good girl, smart, who is a Christian mom (and whose husband was an Alabama football player who went successfully on to the NFL).

It is a compelling biography in this state. Assuming she is elected, Britt could be in the Senate for the rest of her life, a practical Republican who is polite and astute, and after a few decades brings millions of federal dollars back to the state.

I’d like to propose a law under which no one who shares a name with a Stooge can run for federal office. It’s just too hard to take them seriously.

He only got around 20% and his opponent 40% or so. He is toast.

This is how political debts are paid here. Joe Bonner got his seat the same way.

Never discount the possibility of Alabaman Twisslerings to rally around the worst common denominator at the last second?

Only the low information types wait till the last second. Most gops here start early. But, you are entirely correct about their choosing the worst possible person to represent them. Exhibit A is Roy Moore. Exhibit B is Jefferson Beauregard Sessions.
