Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO labor organization and a close ally of the Biden administration, has died.
Damn. I’ve liked and admired Richard Trumka for 40 years. He is irreplaceable.
From the article:
AFL-CIO staff were informed of Trump’s death on Thursday morning
If only that were true, TPM.
Blockquote
AFL-CIO staff were informed of Trump’s death on Thursday morning
if only…
On the 40th anniversary of Reagan firing the air-traffic controllers no less. The event that led to the decline in the labor movement and the status of the middle class.
The ultimate wishful thinking. Sometimes the brain just does what it wants, no matter how hard we try to control our impulses.
Why was he still holding a job well past retirement age, blocking younger people out?
Isn’t that a labor organization?
Travesty!
RIP. At least he’ll be easier to find than Hoffa.
We’ve lost a giant of the labor movement. Trumpka will be missed in so many ways. Condolences to his family and his colleagues.
From the AFL-CIO Constitution, II. Objects and Principles:
- To encourage all workers without regard to race, creed, color, sex, national origin, religion, age [bold added], disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression to share equally in the full benefits of union organization.
I was working for the KY Bureau of Surface Mining 40 years ago when he led the last big coal miner’s strike. He won, too. Old school, that kid.
Thirty years too young, but a heart attack figures. He had the greatest heart in the union movement. His death rips out ours.
Republicans are probably quite pleased that he is gone.
And today this doesn’t even make news.
Sad news. He was one of the good guys.
One of the last things Trumka did was go down to Alabama to encourage those strikers. Still Old School.
He was management. An executive.
Being as the coal subject is breached, I’ll post this:
I posted a couple weeks ago that coal was at a ten year high. Since, natural gas has spiked in price to over $4.00 which means further gains in coal. BP did speculate around January that coal and all fossil fuels would spike because of the renewable energy push. They were right.
Rest in peace, sir. He did so much good in his time here. He will truly be missed.
My wife called to me from the other room (we work at home) and I thought she said TRUMP was dead. Well, someday.
