Christian Reconstructionism is a theological and political movement within conservative Protestantism that argues society should be governed by biblical principles, including the application of biblical law to both personal and public…
Which Christian principles? Turn the other cheek? Sell all you have and give to the poor? Judge not, lest you be judged? Put away your sword – he who lives by the sword shall die by the sword? let he who is without sin cast the first stone? My kingdom is not of this word? Somehow, I think those principles are not being prioritized.
Well, yeah. All that stuff just sounds too “woke”. And yeah, what kind of “Christianity” is based on Old Testament principles of vengeance, xenophobia, and intolerance?
Rushdoony argued that Old Testament laws should still apply to modern society. He supported the death penalty not only for murder but also for offenses listed in the text such as adultery, blasphemy, homosexuality, witchcraft and idolatry.
Idolatry?
Christian Reconstructionism aka Dominionism is just fancy-danced neo-royalism. They want a Lord and King and Savior. They want the Hallelujah chorus to be the national anthem. It’s a bunch of brit-fan royalist mumbo jumbo, clothed in the name of Christian restoration.
White South did and does the same damn thing. Idea didn’t fly? Sing it in Christian and play the Messiah. Mormons also knew, this is the way. Just front the choir. No one can complain if you are singing mighty hymns.
What’s that Gandhi line? I may be paraphrasing. “Your Christ I like. Christians I have a problem with.”
If Pastor Rushdoony’s dreamed for order of society were realized in the contemporary United States, based on public reporting, what members of the Trump Administration, including Cabinet leadership and the head of the Administration, himself, would have survived to hold office?
You notice they only reference the Old Testament. Skipping all those red letter Jesus words.
Paul, in Galatians, listed the fruits of the Spirit as: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
I don’t see much of these attributes in these bozos.
These people remind me of the words of the preacher in Leonard Bernstein’s Mass:
God made us the boss
God gave us the cross
We turned it into a sword
To spread the word of the Lord
We use his holy decrees
To do whatever we please
And it was good - yeah!
And it was good - yeah!
And it was goddamn good!
In the gospel of John (6:15), Jesus actually refused to be made king. Later, when Pontius Pilate questions him about his kingdom, Jesus replies “my kingdom is not of this world” (John 18:36).
So with respect to Jesus and his teaching, this whole Dominion movement appears to be heretical.
Um, How 'bout pedophilia? Seems to be fairly rampant among the “anointed by god” set.
I’m pretty sure these yahoos only care about religion/morals espoused by OLD TESTAMENT Jesus.
Please don’t burst their bubble and tell them that there is NO old testament Jesus.
And lots of Lot. Drunken Lot.
Applies to all religions I reckon. I’ve listened to one too many cult podcasts about charismatic swamis who prey on young lads and lasses. Turn to Judaism, Islam and… on and on. Same story. Great principles (mostly) but all too many power seekers looking to justify brutality in the name of God.
Youch, that might just leave a mark.
Sorry, I just despise these people and their stupid bullshit self righteousness.
Is there a shred of decency in that picture? Any?
I have to say, that is the ugliest Golden Calf I have ever seen.
