The ACLU wants a federal judge to consider “crucial” new evidence as the group pursues sanctions against the Trump administration for withholding key documents in the litigation over the census citizenship question.
Once again, we are seeing Republicans in the administration caught lying in a bit to increase their hold on power. This is a big deal, both because of the lying and how it affects oversight of the executive branch, and because the reasons behind the lying were meant to entrench a party in power for at least a decade. It’s an abuse of power and an attempt to alter future elections…our system just cannot stand if this kind of thing is allowed to pass.
Furman showed he is the type of judge who is infuriated by bad behavior, so hopefully he will throw the book at the administration and individuals, including severe sanctions for their lies and their attempt to subvert the will of the people.
“The Commerce Department has cooperated in good faith with the Committee”
Lie 1-‘cooperated’
Lie 2-‘good’
Lie 3-‘faith’
Lie 4-‘good faith’
Lie 5- yes, it’s still called the Commerce Dep’t, but it’s now a branch of the Trump crime organization
Good reporting. So many in this DoJ are not to be trusted. Not turning over all discovery, even after they were found to not have turned over everything the first time they were called on the carpet is a double-whammy. It is completely done out of bad faith and to claim otherwise is bullshit. Sanction them!
Thank you @tierney for sticking on this census redistricting beat even during these tumultuous times. You have been and continue to be the investigative reporter I turn to on this beat. Unmatched insight and foresight and determination to follow the leads. Cheers!
