Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) scheduled a special session Wednesday, likely enabling state Republicans to muscle through a restrictive voting law overhaul after their Democratic counterparts staged a strategic walkout in May to temporarily kill the package.
And this is why I donât get Manchin and Sinemaâs objections and insistence on bipartisanship. At this point weâre suppose to be a team, and not individual stars. Their intransigence is going to hurt Dem voters outside their own states, with devastating consequences to the party.
Thatâs the crux. The Texas Republicans will get their anti-democratic agenda passed in the absence of a federal response that will not happen as long as the anti-democratic practices of the US Senate persist.
I donât have to look farther than Koch $$ to understand Manchinâs motivation. Not sure what Sinema is getting, though. The âmaverickâ label seems like weak tea.
White, male, property owing, Christians who are registered Republicans can vote at any time in the 30 days before the election, in person or by mail. Everyone else can vote in person, with two forms of photo ID, between 11:00 a.m. and noon on election day, and if you donât actually vote by noon, you lose your right to vote.
Itâs so painful to watch as two âTWO! â Dino senators fiddle as American democracy is burned to the ground before our very eyes. And once itâs gone it will be a long, long time before we get it back, if ever.
I think that was used in Mississippi in the past to move, close polling places. And then Chris Collins of Harris County TX showed how to offer ways to vote that that was good for able and differently abled bodied voters. Drive thru voting anyone? Curbside voting, but WTAF is up with interrogating people who help people get to the polls? (rhetorical of course, but still havenât heard a good explanation that doesnât make me snort)
They could hire British bureaucrats to establish polling places in Dem neighborhoods.
âBut the plans were on displayâŠâ
âOn display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.â
âThatâs the display department.â
âWith a flashlight.â
âAh, well, the lights had probably gone.â
âSo had the stairs.â
âBut look, you found the notice, didnât you?â
âYes,â said Arthur, âyes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying âBeware of the Leopard.â
