Abbott Doubles Down On ‘Invasion’ Rhetoric That Sidesteps Specifics

Texas Republicans have been using the Supreme Court’s decision this week — to allow federal officials to cut through Texas’ razor wire that is currently blocking border patrol agents from accessing parts of the U.S.-Mexico border — to fantasize about a new “civil war.” They’ve also repeatedly characterized immigration as an “invasion” — one of their few electoral talking points heading into the 2024 elections, and a claim that Texas hopes to deploy as a legal argument in court.

NYT: “The chairman of Arizona’s Republican Party resigned abruptly on Wednesday, a day after the publication of a 10-minute recording of a conversation between himself and Kari Lake, a former nominee for governor, in which he appeared to offer a bribe to persuade Ms. Lake to drop her 2024 Senate campaign.”

“The Executive Branch of the United States has a constitutional duty to enforce federal laws protecting States, including immigration laws on the books right now,” Abbott said in his statement. “President Biden has instructed his agencies to ignore federal statutes that mandate the detention of illegal immigrants. The failure of the Biden Administration to fulfill the duties imposed by Article IV, § 4 has triggered Article I, § 10, Clause 3, which reserves to this State the right of self-defense. For these reasons, I have already declared an invasion under Article I, § 10, Clause 3 to invoke Texas’s constitutional authority to defend and protect itself. That authority is the supreme law of the land and supersedes any federal statutes to the contrary.” - from the article, per Abbott’s statement.

So, tell me, anyone: what has Biden done (or those in his administration) that would directly indicate that the accusation is true? And if there’s nothing, why is no one yet stepping up to publicly contest this nonsense?

Trust me, the minions and most Americans have lost respect for the court. Why not emphasize what has been and is being done, already? When does the administration start to stand up for itself, instead of being a punching bag for the Right on Immigration?

So, um, exactly which of the following is Abbott doing?

Article I

Section 10 Powers Denied States

  • Clause 3 Acts Requiring Consent of Congress
  • No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.
  • Added Duty?
  • Keep Troops? Well, they are “National Guard” so not, I suppose, technically troops OF the State of Texas??
  • Entered an agreement of compact?
  • Engaged in War

Sheesh…

Didn’t Texas take up arms against us in 1861? I don’t know if it can fairly be characterized as an “invasion”, but they sure as hell waged war on the United States. Still waiting on an apology for that, by the way…

Sadly, Texas is right to take steps to protect its citizens from the border being overrun by illegals. Also, I think that providing housing, medical services, and work permits should be stopped until every homeless veteran is provided at least the same level of assistance we are giving to criminals (illegal aliens)!

You seem to have mistaken this place for Truth Social.

Biden needs to give a national address about this issue, he needs to be visibly fed up with the bullshit, and the first words need to be “Look, goddammit…”
