This excerpt is part of TPM Cafe, TPM’s home for opinion and news analysis. In late February 2020, residents of the small tourist town of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, woke to learn that a mysterious right-wing group called VDARE had purchased a beautiful nineteenth-century castle overlooking their town. The castle meant everything to Berkeley Springs.…
No, they’re not “Normies”. I’d go as far as to say they’re “Creepies”.
The author is also the co-host of the great “Posting Through It” podcast, doing deep dives on the far-right movement and personalities.
Terrific story. I’m sure I have encountered Brimelow and VDARE before. Glad we imported another ignorant bigot, we don’t seem to have enough of the native variety. His wife sounds like he deserves her. Not nice people, thanks for exposing them.
The sad thing is a helluva lot of People in this schizophrenic land of the free actually believe this Great Replacement bullsh*t. They are terrified of the coming change in demographics when Whites will be majority/minority. They think the Convicted felons mass deportation scheme will stop it. Not going to happen.
- Deceleration of Diversity: Long-term projections indicate that even with reduced immigration or mass deportations, the U.S. will continue to become more diverse, though at a slower rate. By 2045, the “minority-white” tipping point—where no single racial group is a majority—is still expected to occur, but the total proportion of the Latino population would be noticeably smaller than current baseline forecasts.
My Dad would have called that a starter castle. ![]()
Very fearless, have to admire Michael and Hannah. Calm, deliberate, professional.
Honestly, at the risk of over simplifying, I think it’s fear. Many of the people who supported slavery, believed their God did too.
This is fascinating. Thank you for posting it.
Letitia James deserves much of the credit for the demise of the VDARE filthsite, which was suspended in July 2024. But also important was private sector refusal to aid and abet an organization so odious that even PayPal cut them off. Here is Lydia Brimelow whining about how “lawfare” and “cancel culture” cancelled them. This vid appears on the final goodbye posting at https://vdare.com/. It’s fun to watch.

I used to go to Berkley Springs as a kid. Magical town. I know this castle! I can’t (actually, I can) believe these weirdos own it.
I grew up in Berkeley Springs in the 70’s. I remember hanging out on the roof of the castle on summer evenings, looking over the town. It is definitely part of the town’s identity.
