A New Front In The Battle To Save The Republic From Trump

(Throws yellow flag) African blackwood is genus Dalbergia (Dalbergia melanoxylon). Ebony is different, and comes from several species in genus Diospyros. They’re not the same wood species.

I know about African blackwood because I play two “Irish” flutes made from that wood. It’s also the traditional wood used for clarinets, because it’s highly resistant to moisture produced in woodwinds, where ebony would expand and crack. Ebony is used for other musical instruments where moisture isn’t a factor, like piano keys and fretted instrument fretboards.

You know I can’t possibly give that a like!

Good point. Biden sometimes slurs words and he’s prone to the occasional gaffe, but he sounds like a nice grandpa with a masculine voice.

DeSantis has an odd, high-pitched vocal timbre that grates on my ears. It’s not a good public speaking voice. No wonder he likes having Casey stand in for him.

I can’t (well, I do, but YOU know) believe they are pressing a charge that does not get filed.

It’s nuts. (I am sure Weiss can find ONE ‘drug addict buys a gun’ prosecution, but my rejoinder is NO drug addict thinks ‘s/he’ is a drug addict. Because that is what they are charging: only the drug/gun charge.

Thank you, sir josephebacon! Evil Ironside ‘fits’ Mr. Abbott to a T!

Like minds and all that.

Maybe I will let @karlwlewis out of the cages a couple of minutes before releasing the starving leopards into the arena after all.

Decent head start program being both progressive and recognizing his contributions and potential.

Sorry for the signal interference. My Vet is calm and asleep now.

So – the VA, as you know, is much more than nasty sarcasm. It’s more than FUBAR, crass, awful, appalling, revolting, vicious, repulsive, and repellent. It is indifferent.

Of course we know that, but sometimes, after nights and days like we’ve had, it is a step beyond and outside the usual overstress central. Tomorrow is a new day.

Trump leads a minority faction in the country, and the kind of permanent crisis a second presidential term would generate would invite a 2026 Democratic congressional landslide big enough to jolt even a Trump-led GOP.

Frum, like most other people, fails to take into account the fact that if TRUMP is elected in 2024, there won’t be any more elections in this country. TRUMP 47 and his as-yet unindicted co-conspirators in Congress would absolutely dismantle all the election infrastructure that would be needed to even hear about that landslide.

There will be zero democratic consequences to any bad thing TRUMP 47 does, because he will terminate democracy if he is sworn in.

Many voters won’t take the time to write him in. People are much less sympathetic to Trump’s criminality. Not sure he would be allowed as a write-in option because barring him from the ballot would also include a ban on him from holding office.

This is as funny as the MORANS sign some Trump supporter held up to insult NON-Trump cultists.

The quoted comment to this article in Josh’s ed blog, about how we may face even bloodier consequences if Trump is disqualified, has echoes of the “Ukraine can’t fight back too hard because nukes” argument. Basically, any bully can threaten, and you have to pre-concede so as not to risk whatever terrible thing they are holding over you. I think anyone who was bullied in middle school can tell you that this strategy doesn’t work great. Most bullies thrive off of fear, and the more fear you show, the more they will escalate. Really, that’s how we’ve gotten this far into fascism for the GOP anyhow. They push the nation farther and farther towards the brink and there are so many reasons we can’t really fight on their level because danger. January 6 came after trail of so many other transgressions that went unmet, it’s hard to even keep track anymore. That large crowd of bullies crossed into the Capitol not because someone had gone nuclear on them but because no one had. Having had a lot of experiences with bullies as a kid, I can assure you that sheathing any weapon will not bring a peaceful resolution. Especially since these bullies have been mostly empty shirts. The commenter points to the Malheur Occupation, which was actually a pathetic whine-fest that was more of an embarrassment than a rallying call. And the only blood that was shed was their own. January 6, as much of a transgression and scary moment as it was, ended in only one violent death on the scene (of course also terrible violent towards some of the officers), and it was one of the transgressors killed. These kinds of insurrections in other countries have often resulted in orgies of violence, civil wars, etc. This one ended with Nancy Pelosi’s computer being stolen. How about all the Trump perp walks? Where have all the bloody revolutions been? Shouldn’t all those scary, blustery people have set off a bomb or something? Instead, we had a few old fellas milling around sadly. I don’t want to discount the danger and hate surging under the surface in our country, nor the potential for violent outbreaks. I just don’t think their occurrence will be determined by how many weapons we lay down.

Great post!

The first thing we must always keep in mind about Chump is he is a huge coward. The presidency for the very first time, gave him the clout and ‘money’ he never had to push back at REAL billionaires and gave him his ragtag army…the only ‘muscle’ he has ever had. Gawd how it thrilled him. Even with a real military, a REAL army…he was still reduced to winking and nudging the Meal Team Six brigade.

The second thing to know about bullies and Chump voters (and Republicans) is THEY are the true cowards that brought us to this point. We aren’t where we are at because Dems are cowards or wouldn’t stand up to bullies…it’s because the R party from top to bottom are pure cowards who already capitulated completely. Completely. And it turns out, when they finally pull off one of their cowardly strikes, it is most often against their own people who aren’t knuckling under sufficiently.

I don’t see that stopping TIFG. If he got any kind of vote count, the accusations of voter fraud would again be rampant.

For one thing, write-in rules require the name to be written precisely the way it was filed. Any exceptions are eliminated.

Most of his supporters would likely not adhere to the rule, which would result in more screaming, litigation and gnashing of teeth.

Write-in candidates rarely get any kind of positive result.

Frum well knows that.
