A Major New Constitutional Clash Erupts In Oregon

A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. Administration Brazenly Defies Court Order I went into the weekend anticipating that today’s Morning Memo would be focused on the Friday ruling by a federal judge in Tennessee that there is a “realistic…

It seems to be the case these days that the TFG administration is pushing things one step too far - with everything

An important note in this one -

In a separate immigration court ruling last week, an immigration judge denied Abrego Garcia’s request to reopen his original immigration case. His lawyers had argued that his deportation and return to the U.S. had reset the clock on making an asylum claim, but the judge did not agree, closing that potential path to preventing deportation.

So, with all the “end DEI!!!” going on, why would TFG support HBCUs? Because it keeps “them” in their place and out of White schools.

Marybeth Gasman, a professor for the graduate school of education at Rutgers University and executive director of the Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions, said she believes the Trump administration’s support for HBCUs while rejecting DEI sends a message that the president “doesn’t have an issue with Black people in Black spaces.”

Progress in California?

A majority of California voters, 54%, said they support Proposition 50, which would enact a mid-decade redistricting of the state’s congressional map, according to a survey from the firm co/efficient, shared first with Punchbowl News. A significantly smaller share, 36%, said they oppose it.

However -

Voters like the idea of independent redistricting. Only 12% said they trust the legislature most to do redistricting and 35% said they trust the existing commission the most.

I was scrolling through Substack just a few minutes ago and there was video of ICE agents trying to take in a man on the South Side of Chicago. Two “agents,” wearing gaiters over half their faces (of course), dragging a desperate Hispanic-looking man and trying to zip-tie him and put him in their car. Fortunately, between several people shooting video and a few getting in the way, they ended up driving off in shame.

Our version of the Nuremberg trials can’t come soon enough. I’m feeling physically ill.

(Incidentally, thanks to TPM for NOT showing Miller’s tweet insulting the Trump-appointed judge who ruled against the National Guard going into Portland. But then there’s this:

NYT:

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear an appeal of the criminal conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime associate of Jeffrey Epstein.

The court’s action ends Ms. Maxwell’s attempt to overturn her conviction, meaning her only chance of an early release from prison is likely to be clemency from President Trump, with whom she used to socialize in the Florida and New York party scenes.

Now all the voters have to do is show up and cast a vote.

Sometimes, the polls miss the point that voters don’t always do what they say they will.

I think this is the most chilling part of this story

“Despite dealing with grief from the loss of a family member, Tony continued his important work on behalf of the American people,” Abigail Jackson said in a statement. “Nothing in these private conversations, that are shamefully being reported on by morally bankrupt reporters, is new or classified information.”

Attacking judges that rule against the government appears to be the new national pastime.

This should be understood as them assisting Trump in maintaining leverage over her.

I hope that shit doesn’t start. When i was in Northern Ireland back in the 90s they’d car bomb a judge who made the wrong decision in a trial. Of course they were always killing each other over something.

It’s a poser. There’s just no obvious answer.

Paul says it all.

They are not satisfied with soft autocracy, only the hard stuff will do. I suspect they realize that they have lost with the soft, so they need to move directly to the hard to keep power.

The amazing thing is how little our press reports. It is almost as if they were being suppressed.
