A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. Why MAGA Evangelicals Support Bombing Iran In the run-up to Saturday’s bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities, certain prominent figures in MAGA-land sought to pressure Trump and his pro-war allies to remember the movement’s supposedly non-interventionist…
“We get to hit you, you simply take it, we declare victory.”
“My motto is: Always get even. When somebody screws you, screw them back in spades.” - Trump
When does this progress to: For every attack on American interests, we will target 10 random villages
Every would-be dictator is an authoritarian. But a would-be dictator with a fanatically worshipful mass following and a comprehensive policy to bend all of civil society to his will, is a totalitarian. And that, according to the linked piece, is what we have with Trump:
he invented in Geico Gecco.
Folks, it’s getting real. These criminals have attempted to destroy our constitutional government. I don’t know who’s going to stop them, but I envision a time when there will a lot more people on the street than showed up June 14. We must stand up against this tyranny; that’s how this country started. No Kings!
Re:bombing Iran (or any other place) is The National Embarrassment hoisting himself on his own petard. The only silver lining is for Bibi.
By that that statement, I conclude that BiBi is the cloud.
And screwing him is simply not supporting him 100%.
And TFG has created a new PAC to go after Thomas Massie (R, KY) to unseat Massie for going aginst him.
So I see the Trump Administration is still talking smack and taking victory laps. It would appear their strategy in terms of securing our people and property is to threaten and shit-talk Iran into submission. I certainly hope they’re doing a lot more than that, but with Kash at FBI, Tulsi at DNI, Noem at Homeland Security, and a 22 year old in a high position in cyber, I have grave doubts.
The mainstream, and I have to put TPM in this category on this particular blindside, is that there will be some huge “break” within MAGA that will provide openings for the democratic ship to right itself.
The break isn’t coming. It will never come.
The only opportunity that might arise is if a depression-level change in the economic status of the nation affects the base … not merely a slow decline perpetrated by the ongoing isolation. And even if such a collapse were to occur, given the feeble structural response from the Democrat on the party level, Trump would simply announce a “war on depression,” pass showy acts solidifying what any nation would do when in that situation, including shoveling out funds funneled to his base; and they would praise his steady leadership. I can already image the “Finally a President that acts!” accolades captured in the NY Times, “We spoke to Trump Supporters about the President’s Response to the Economic Crisis” analysis, circa 1927.
I don’t think all is lost, but the Democratic Party needs to build now a full-force unified response to all that the President is doing, and not the one-off issue of the day they think will move the dial electorally.
Re MAGA, war, and the alleged schism:
We could invade Paraguay and they would fall in line. I’m sure ol’ Tucker is finding a way to get on board. God wills it. (We love you, God! You’re the bestest God ever!)
Back in the day, when we wanted to go smoke a joint, we would say “Let’s pray” LOL
This is making the rounds. Perfect.
