The number of confirmed new coronavirus cases per day in the U.S. hit an all-time high of 40,000 Friday — eclipsing the mark set during one of the deadliest stretches in late April — in a resurgence that has led some governors to backtrack or at least pause the reopening of their states.
What a great time for the abomination to ask SCOTUS to toss the ACA. And all those younger people now getting Covid19 - perhaps they won’t die quickly, but they’ll be condemned to live with serious health problems. Not being able to get affordable insurance would make their futures even more bleak.
I"m thinking their spin in the next briefing will be something along the lines of:
“Good News! Estimates are that more people than we thought - have already contacted the virus and are doing just fine! This means we don’t need to increase testing, we’ve reached ‘herd immunity’ and young folks who are immune - should go out and party!” (“Also - we were right - it’s no worse than the flu - also!”)
Maybe at some point the idiots backing Trump will realize that not only is he shooting someone on Fifth Avenue (which, who gives a fuck, right, because it’s NYC), he’s also gunning for them and theirs.
We’ll know more about that hypothesis in two to three weeks.
Some experts have expressed doubt that deaths will return to that level, in part because of advances in treatment and prevention but also because a large share of the new infections are in younger adults, who are more likely than older ones to survive.
You stole this from the conservative guy who made the exact same argument on social media. When I responded with the reality that in a really bad year the flu kills 65000 and we are double that all ready and to reach herd immunity will take 70-90% infections. In a country of 330,000,000 people that means about 220,000,000 infections. Best current guess is 20,000,000 have been infected. That means we have to have 200,000,000 more infections. That means up to 11,000,000 more dead over a period of years.
He responded by saying he wouldn’t respond to me any further because my numbers are wildly off. I ask which ones. Crickets.
Yeah - doesn’t surprise me someone ‘went there’. It’s so easy to predict their insane reasoning. It’s simplistic. Like “If we don’t test, we will not have more cases!”
and the CDC thinks the number of cases is actually 10 times worse but what the heck, eh? do the Rump’s care?
Obviously not.
Sometimes I think that the solution for America is to raze it to the ground and start over again. Create a modern constitution like we have in Canada that deals with the problems of today.
That would bring about the kind of change needed to overcome present reality.
Yes it was at 2100 deaths on worldometer for a while. Mrs. VH says that was a correction for deaths that had not been recorded in previous days. So, the 2100 might be an artifact. But that’s all I got other than Wordometer lists yesterday’s death total at 649.
In the U.S., Arizona reported over 3,000 additional infections reported Thursday, the fourth day in a week with a increase over that mark. The state postponed further efforts to reopen.
The numbers “continue to go in the wrong direction,” said Republican Gov. Doug Ducey said.
Well duh Ducey. Every move you made was wrong. Every thing you did to please Trump killed more of your residents.
The only thing I’m interested in seeing is how Governors in red states are going to handle this. Pandering to Trump, or pandering to the RWNJs got people killed by COVID-19 but enabled another kind of sickness to spread-the “I’ve Got Mine, GFY.”
