A Far Right Law Enforcement Movement Is Fueling The Effort To Infiltrate Voting Machines - TPM – Talking Points Memo

A far right, nationwide membership organization of county sheriffs has turned its focus to Donald Trump- and Dinesh D’Souza-inspired claims of “voter fraud,” and it’s creating big problems for state officials worried about actual election integrity.

Democracy is hard.

Uh where in the constitution does it say sheriffs have these super powers?

Leaf, who’s also rubbed elbows with one of the men accused of plotting to kidnap Michigan’s governor, has said that he was moved to investigate voter fraud after a retired sergeant “brought in some documentation from the MyPillow guy.”

Emails reported by Bridge Michigan last year showed the sheriff’s impressive connections: An attorney for Leaf, Carson Tucker, was in touch with Sidney Powell, as well as with a contact for another Big Lie figure, Lin Wood.

Democracy may hinge on Dominion bringing massive defamation suits on anyone within 6-degrees of Mike Lindell. Crazy fucker needs to be brought to heel.

Putin got a bargain with TFG. What to do with Jeff Clark and also all these little fucks that still think they still rule their little feifdoms. How to be a martyr at no personal cost? Like Dar, you claim that you would be a martyr, if given the chance. I hope Leaf-dar gets to be the martyr that he wants to be. The rest of us are certainly paying for his assholery.

Same place it says I have an absolute right to carry the firearm of my choosing where and when I choose without any license or interference. Nowhere.

It was in the “original” text… but wouldn’t you know it… that version got lost or… something. So you’ll have to take their word that they understand the underlying unviewable document; It’s a lot like being a Morman.

This story must have been much more painful to write than it was to read. The thickness of these people in positions of power frustrates the causes of sense and good government. The constitutional sheriff concept parallels the sovereign citizen movement. For both, there is a conspiracy behind everything they do not like. An election has an outcome you do not like? Conspiracy. Does technology baffle you? Conspiracy. Is the jar lid too tight? Conspiracy. On the upside – disassembling a tabulator has made them vulnerable to civil penalties from the manufacturer.

I look forward to seeing what happens on that front.

Or something to do with old English law and the Sheriff of Nottingham. See, there’s free, sovereign citizens, and there’s sheriffs. Everything else is unconstitutional.

This point raises the question, where does Dar Leaf recognize limits to his powers? Do county boundaries limit his jurisdiction? Does he recognize state borders?

I think I see the problem here.

OT but somewhat related to law enforcement:

Yes–and somewhere along the line, an irresistible force is going to meet an immovable object.

Looking at the election results, I suspect democracy is dying. One of the few times I’m happy to be old.

Ask Nick Cage. He knows all about hidden sections of the founding documents nobody has ever seen. It is a National Treasure kind of thing.

And this same mechanism that gave them the title of county sheriff, is now suspect when the election outcome is not to their liking.

Seems that is grossly overworking the word “documentation”.

If you accept the concept of a Constitutional Sheriff you accept that America can be reduced to a decentralized cluster of Middle Age type fiefdoms. You also accept that in time you’ll be on the wrong side of unchecked and unbridled authority…even if you’re on the right side of it today.

We are going to see increasing instances of local authorities simply negating votes. Throwing them out, refusing to count them, ruling them illegal or invalid, etc. What used to be a perfunctory act will now have to be litigated by voters just to get their ballots to count. And it will become widespread. It’ll be especially interesting when it holds up or outright perverts the results in major races.
