75-Year-Old Dem Rep. Announces COVID Positivity After Taking Shelter During Siege | Talking Points Memo

Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) on Monday announced that she tested positive for COVID-19 after taking a rapid antigen test — a diagnosis she believes stems from exposure to the novel coronavirus during protective isolation in the Capitol building amid insurrectionist riots.

Perhaps she should speak to a lawyer about filing assault charges?

Does the House have provisions for remote voting? I’m wondering how numerous people getting sick and quarantining will affect upcoming votes.

Yes.

The GOP reps who refused masks while sheltering in a small room, Andy Biggs (AZ), Michael Cloud (TX), Markwayne Mullin (OK), and Scott Perry (PA), also sided with the insurrectionists by voting to overturn the election.

They can be kicked out twice.

I got an appointment today for a vaccine. Unfortunately it’s not until Feb. 20th. But what the heck. I’ll keep trying to get one closer. But of course we all have to keep masked up. No one wants to be the last casualty in a war.

Absolutely. All such vermin must be expelled.

I remember watching the video of those smug republican assholes refusing to wear a mask in that situation. Apparently for them, political posturing outweighs being a decent human being.

I hope she recovers with no lasting problems. And if she doesn’t, will they (the smug assholes) feel remorse?

I am beyond angry about this. Rep. Watson Coleman is a cancer survivor and 75 years old. How DARE these selfish twerps put anyone’s life in danger because of the fragile egos!!! How psychopathic of them–basically POISONING their colleague.

C’mon, she was attacking their Freedumb, assaulting them with cloth masks.

So is she eligible for the Platinum Regeneron treatment if needed?

Ooops, wrong color, wrong party.

I think the House does have provisions for remote voting, but they may need to update for the potential of a lot more positive cases, and proximity cases needing to quarantine.

It would be good to know when she got the vaccine. January 5th wouldn’t have done her much good, but if early enough she might get a boost in her immune response.

Monstrous, but I’m not sure it was ego.

Their behavior, which is not limited to this one instance, may involve a certain amount of political calculation, an appeal to the like-minded.

(Perhaps I’m using the term “-minded” loosely.)

It’s time to hit those assholes where it hurts… in the wallet. Contact the biggest corporate contributors they have and pressure them to shut off the flow of funds to their election campaigns. Publicly owned companies truly fear the shaming of strong public opinion. They have entire departments that deal with reputational problems. Association with seditionists is VERY bad PR. This will be the only effective punishment. Republicans will do nothing but circle the wagons. Too many Democrats and Independents will want to “move on and help heal the nation”. Accountability first, then reconciliation. Fuck forgiveness.

This is really a shame. I’m sure we will all keep her in our thoughts. I am somewhat heartened to hear that she had the first vaccine injection. Fingers crossed… :crossed_fingers::flushed:

Glad to hear it. Stay safe.

Or the first, frankly.

You mean, they’re Murderous Seditionists? I’m shocked, I tell ya… who could have known being packed together without masks might lead to a super-spreader event?

Ignorance is no longer a defense… throw the fucking book at them. The whole lot of them. I’ve been locked down for ten fucking months because of their kind. I have no more patience for it. NMNQ!

I know too many who have contracted this damn virus. Some of them are currently hospitalized. I hope Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman gets the best possible care, because this virus can be a prolonged fucking hell on earth.

Congress needs to allow secure remote voting. Hopefully that does not require the passing of a law requiring the signature of a lawless BLOTUS IMPOTUS.
