An 81-year-old government ethics law is back in the headlines again, as the Trump administration is accused of staging official government events for purposes of the Republican National Convention.
the President has shown indifference — if not hostility — to the separation between public and political activity that the Hatch Act was passed to maintain.
It really won’t be a concern once the coronation ceremony is complete. “I am the law!”
When Jefferson talked about democracies needing regular revolutions, I really think he was talking about following generations not paying attention to why society did things. Like the vast majority of the white population being shocked at how few actual changes have taken place following past civil rights upheavals. Or all the plebes in the work force pining for Trump to act like a strongman leader.
US intelligence officials say there’s no evidence to back up Trump’s claims about threats to mail-in voting
… … …
Because yeah.
trump’s out of his ass reality does not comport with actual reality and that can be a very very dangerous situation. I am not gonna stand in line to vote. I will get my mail in ballot in early October from my county recorder’s office. Comes to me in the mail. But after I fill it out I am gonna hand it to a human in that office. Early voting! I learned recently that life long republican cousins of mine up the road in Phoenix did not vote for trump and will not this time either. They intend to vote for Biden. Things do not look good for donald. I had occasion today to drive thru a very upscale republican part of Tucson while on an errand. There were Biden yard signs all over the place and it made my day.
Well just because they are willing to violate the law doesn’t mean we should ignore it. Someone has to stand up for the Rule of Law even if it is one sided right now.
So I’m glad the Democrats are going to investigate.
He is funneling campaign money to his friends and cronies, while we taxpayers have to finance his campaign. Hatch Act sounds too esoteric. Call it what it is: those of us who despise him are being forced to subsidize his golf clubs, travel and security for his corrupt children as they go around the world doing business deals, and now the campaign for his re-election. None of this should be happening.
Have watched it before. And he enjoys the teeth gnashing angst he creates. He holds it up high for his cronies to ooh and aah over. It is not simply a tactic to get what he wants, it is also one used to demoralize his opposition and make them look whiny and defenseless. Some of the acts are created specifically for that fact. Being over the top and rubbing our noses in it is pure joy for him.
First …welcome to the sand lot commentary @mftpmacct.
Second…I think after January 20th the rules of the game are gonna change and turn out to be biting several members of the trump clan. And biting hard. In very sensitive parts. Daddy trump and the boys are gonna have hefty lawyer bills. And that’s gonna be the easy part.
The Hatch A ct is 81 years old the article says. The implication there is old laws are somehow lessened because of their age.
Not so
For example
The Supreme Law of the Land… the Constitution is old. More than 230 years old. And it is no less in force than when it was adopted all those years ago.
