Keith Sonderling has been acting Secretary of Labor since ex-secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer resigned amid a flurry of misconduct allegations ranging from drinking on the job to having an affair with a staff member. Sonderling, though, was reportedly at the helm long before then. On Thursday morning, members of the Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions…

How did this schmuck manage to keep a federal appointment through the Biden administration? Somebody screwed up.

He is pro-crypto in retirement plans. He doesn’t think pregnancy is any big deal. Pregnant people don’t deserve protection. He is as bad as any one in Trump;s cabinet. Where is the outrage among the Democrats. He deserves round the clock protests. Apparently Democrats have given up on labor. Might be why labor doesn’t want to vote for them.

Biden was asleep at the switch. It is why Harris lost.

Wasn’t Biden the 1st Pres to walk on a picket line and supported labor unions?

This is the problem of assuming that once Trump is out of office we can return to normal and pretend like republicans didn’t give every single part of the federal government cancer.

Biden’s entire administration assumed that they didn’t need to rip apart every aspect of the government and excise these malignant tumors – in fact they thought that the very act of doing so would be negative to the stability of the federal government and the expertise of career civil servants and possibly set what republicans would call a patronage system.

This is also a good time to remember that what republican politicians say about anything is meaningless because none of it is in good faith.

Fast forward to Trump Part II: Corrupt Boogaloo and Republicans did the thing that Democrats were afraid they would do if they just fixed government when they had the chance.

This needs to be a lesson for whomever comes next. Everyone hired or promoted during the Trump Administration needs to be laid off on Day 1 because the assumption has to be that they did something corrupt or possibly flatly illegal to achieve that.

The next Dem needs to work with Congress to restructure the administrative state given the supreme courts jurisprudence on Major Questions, Chevron, and Slaughter. Administrative agencies must lose any power over rule making (because the court doesn’t think that rules under democrats are legitimate anyway) and move this function to legislative agencies and move any administrative court like immigration courts into an article III court.

Then clarify the the remaining executive agency function their mandate to faithfully execute the law or face criminal penalties in a personal capacity the same way you would if your job was to distribute grant funds and you instead defrauded the government.

Does this create a justification for Republicans to destroy the civil service again the next time they are in power? No. They have already proven they will do that if they win back power. The only thing democrats can control is what we do with power when we have it and how we structuring it assuming that we now have an anti-constitutional party seeking to claim power from us.

Agreed that a thorough housecleaning (a fumigation, actually) is required in the next Democratic administration. Fortunately (I’m trying to look on the bright side), Trump has made that easier by removing civil service protections. So let’s throw out the trash and then restore employment security for civil service employees.

A lot of people think Trump is the problem. He is only the surface manifestation of a much deeper cancer. There are millions of Americans who are anti-workingman, and pro billionaire. Trump just draws all the attention.

We have are going to have to stop assuming that getting rid of Trump will change anything by itself. We die that in 2020 and it didn’t get any better. MAGA is large and stupid.
