5 New Things We Learned (Or Didn’t) At First Jan. 6 Hearing With Current Capitol Security Officials

The House on Thursday got its chance to investigate the security failures amid the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection, as the current acting Capitol police chief and acting House sergeant at arms spoke publicly for the first time.

There is still a LOT we don’t know, and it might take more than one investigation to sort it all out. This is every bit as big a deal as the 9/11 attacks. The repercussions went worldwide.

Who at the Pentagon refused to dispatch the national guard and why? Bring in Trump appointees at the DoD, DHS, and DoJ and ask them to explain their delays in sending reinforcements to aid the besieged Capitol Police.

Did Trump order anyone at DoJ, DoD, or DHS to delay sending reinforcements to repel the insurrectionists?

And why were troops used last summer to turn a peaceful protest into a violent attack against peaceful citizens, but no effort made by DoJ and DoD to stop a violent crowd, incited by the “president” to attack the Capitol and our elected members of Congress? Heads need to roll on this one!

Just in: Source confirms the US Attorney’s office is in possession of security camera footage of possible rioters being given tours before the Capitol attack — but nothing else. No visitor logs or entry records.

Given that Republicans conducted 10 House and Senate investigations into Benghazi involving 62 hours of hearings and 255 witnesses, surely they will demand no less thorough investigation of the Jan 6 tragedy. Am I right?

That is the essence of this matter. Why were peaceful protests opposing Trump met with such violent force while insurrectionists supporting Trump were allowed hours of violence upon the Capitol without a commensurate response by security forces?

Trump is at the root of this insurrection and the withholding of forces to quell the violence was in subservience to him. Testimony from senior officials in the direct chain of command must be compelled .

I understand and encourage the various congressional hearings. However I think America might be better served by letting the DOJ handle this. As they said, “we will follow the evidence.” If there is a criminal case to be made, congress can muddy the waters and make convictions more difficult. I want criminal convictions.

Very interesting exclusion/omission.

I read Blogett’s opening statement, and between that and his attempt to cover up for Irving (“Tim Blodgett, the current acting House sergeant at arms, said that Irving hadn’t realized it was a formal request for backup” ) I think Nancy Pelosi needs to make it a priority to find a new permanent House Sargeant at Arms ASAP.

This is damning and I want to know which members of Congress are responsible.

“reconnaissance” Capitol tours

WaPo Carol Leonnig reports on MSNBC that there is concern and anxiety within DOJ that prosecutors originally working the Jan 6 insurrection cases were not sufficiently "eager or aggressive" in investigating whether Congress members incited rioting. DOJ now working on that.

We don’t know who the congressional staffers were who did the Recon because they were wearing standard Delta Force furniture and marble camo.

I guess they’ll need to play the match game with their Parler video streams.

Of course the police union is against investigations into these 36 officers. That’s what police unions do- protect the guilty so the decent officers continue to have to work with scumbags, or as someone else put it- bad officers make the bed that all of them have to lie in.

In case you’re wondering- screw that union. With SIX officers already relieved and stripped of policing powers, there’s some more digging that’s in order. How many cops were injured, plus one killed and two committing suicide? The insurrection was an event that even the police union should want to see thoroughly investigated, but instead, the union is trying to protect those 36 (and probably a few more). I wonder how many of them are deeply involved in the union, or drinking buddies with union leadership? I’m not anti-union, just anti-corrupt union.

So which offices authorized these tours and what records of the outsiders must they provide?

So how many of these were appointed in the last four years?
