The Catalist report is in, the big “what happened” packet interpreting the 2024 election through voting results and voter files, census data and modeling from the Democratic firm that election-studiers anticipate every cycle as soon as the last vote is cast. This year’s headline: Men, especially young men, swung hard to the right. “The gender…

So tell me again how AI is suppose to be the greatest thing on earth.

There’s more than a few close thirds but both of these have a good lead.
The saddest thing about this extremely sad story about on the breakout of voting for 2024 is the fact that people who actually bothered to vote in the last 4 elections are considered “super-voters”.
I have yet to see the breakout I really want to see - IQ.
No surprise that gender was a factor. Interesting that it has not been a factor mentioned by the media analysts.
It was also a factor in 2016.
I was at the bottom. And I heard knocking from below.
Paraphrase of old Russian proverb.
I guess I have to correct this, the proverb is Polish. The shorter Russian version is “There is no bottom”.
I completely deleted your previous post for you.
Donald Trump as he did in 2016 and 2020 won 53% of the White women vote.
So I hesitate to blame men. What I do blame is ignorance and spinelessness of Democrats.
But before getting to that, in a discussion with my oldest brother, a retired managing editor of medium sized newspaper, before the election he claimed “anyone but Biden will defeat Trump”. I warned him that as Biden does better with White men than any other Democrat, it was likely that only Joe Biden could defeat Donald Trump.
Furthermore, if Biden was not the nominee regardless of when he dropped out, the nominee had to be Kamala Harris or the Democrats would piss off its most loyal base, Black women. I also told him I doubted a Black women in 2024 America could win.
After the election my oldest brother said, “who knew that Black men were as chauvinistic as White men.” My response was, “everyone who knows any Black men”.
Noting that unlike my oldest brother, if for no other reason than my wife is Black, I have more social contact with Black people in general and Black men specifically. In regard to the 2024 election, from the moment Joe Biden dropped out everyone who in social setting converses with diverse groups of people knew that religion is more important than race to how individuals think and act. As Black men are more religious than White men, they are at least as chauvinistic as White men.
The day after Harris replaced Biden 3 Black men told me they could not vote for Harris because “God says being president is a man’s job”. 2 said they were not going to vote and the 3rd said he was going to have to vote for Trump.
That is everyone who knows anything about people understands replacing Biden with Harris meant the Democrats were going to bleed men, especially White men, but also men of color.
The only question was were White women going to save us and I was hopeful but doubtful. That is I was not surprised that Trump did as well with White women in spite of his work to allow the Government to grab them all by the …,
In my opinion, anyone who saw the shitshow that was the Trump campaign could not possibly believe that Biden’s debate performance had anything to do with people voting for Trump.
Or in my view, Biden was going to win and it was not going to be that close.
However, the spinelessness of Democrats versus the understanding of Republicans to elect policy over a person and that elections that matter are about a movement and not just a moment, is why Trump is now president.

Re: The Men
Democrats need to figure out what it takes to appeal to those dudes. And please, NOT the drunk-at-the-end-of-the-bar, know-it-all bellowing that works so well with Republicans. Men have emotions other than a desire to bully, a need to have particular groups to hate. Most of them have responsibilities, like jobs. Maybe even families. If they’re not in the top 1%, they’ll want a better life.
That could be a good place to start.
The Catalist report tells us stuff we already know - men are both sexiest and racist. I contend Kamala’s only issue was she was a woman and a person of color. That cost her the 6 million votes that Biden got in 2020.
The Dems need to come back with a white man (who is NOT a racist or sexist) and who will nail Trump and Trumpism to the cross of lies, corruption and traitorism to everything that the American wants and needs. Particularly making the economy fair for everyone.
Should not be too hard to do given how blatant the GOP has been about screwing over everyone who isn’t a rich, racist, corrupt white guy. How you win the young men of color who voted themselves into a permanent second class - I don’t know, but there is always hope for life-long learning and (finally) figuring how who hates you and just wants to fuck you up.
My $.02… Misogyny and racism were a factor, but not the only ones. People didn’t want Biden 2.0 for a number of reasons, like post-pandemic economic malaise and inflation, a late wake-up by the Biden administration on immigration concerns, and lack of short-term policy proposals that promised something new to vote for.
After her nomination, Harris went on “The View” and was asked if she would have done anything different than Biden during his administration. She answered “Not a thing!” It was a missed opportunity to turn the page and offer something new. Maybe out of loyalty to Biden, not wanting to feel she was criticizing him? Whatever the reasons, she ran as Biden 2.0 and that’s just not what people wanted. Along with the misogyny and racism.
What I gathered from all the statistics provided in that report is that things come down to a truism I heard long ago; that representative democracy only works with an informed electorate. All the stuff about ill informed voters and those who change their apparent views every cycle are the real reason we are seeing the destruction of the America most of us grew up in. And it couldn’t be more apparent than in the fact that the person who was elected as out " leader " is the absolute polar opposite of what that leader should be. There is no real hope for recovery from all of this, it’s The End. Period…
