2020 Election Conspiracy Theorists Rush To Bankroll Arizona Senate GOP’s Sketchy Audit | Talking Points Memo

The audit that Arizona’s GOP Senate has ordered of the 2020 election in the state’s largest county will be partially bankrolled by private donations — including from a fundraising effort spearheaded by some of the loudest promoters of President Trump’s lies about the 2020 election.

A fine Christian man who will uncover the truth just as soon as we raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in private money to fund his mission.

What I wanna know is, when the audit shows nothing untoward in terms of the final results, will these financiers ask for their money back? Will they storm the audit location? Is their financing on a contingency basis, dependent upon the outcome? Haven’t all of these ‘audits’ thus far resulted in changes in the outcome that actually benefitted Biden over Trump?

I guess this is a case of putting one’s money where one’s mouth is, but it’s a fool’s errand.

And these fools and their money are soon parted.

Gee, I’m sure that an audit bankrolled by conservative interests intent on proving that Trump won that’s run by conservatives who want to prove Trump won will come up with an honest result based on the actual ballots. There’s no way they would throw out or lose Biden ballots to get to their preordained result, it’s just impossible to contemplate.

Well, as a native Arizonan, resident of Maricopa County, I am shocked that the count is being held at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum at the Fairgrounds rather than on the midway with all the other carnival paraphernalia.

They’re using this voting-fraud grifter to make sure that outcome does not happen.

As an Arizonan, I hope all of these crazy people are forming a suicide pact. Apparently my gut wrenching and vitriolic reaction to Trump’s election was nothing but a Buddhist chant compared to the reaction of these people to Trump’s loss… They have convinced themselves that because the results were not what they wanted, there must be something illegal and nefarious going on. Can’t wait until they announce they have absolute proof that the election was stolen and get treated like legitimate advocates by FOX and some percentage of “objective” journalists.

How is Lin Wood not roaming around a padded cell screaming out God-like old testatment curses on his many enemies?

It’s a real shame that the GQP could potentially falsify results without any interference, but if the Dems were to do such a thing, the GQP would demand a seat at the table while the audit was taking place.

I’m wondering if I’ve missed the unicorn-level bipartisanship of this effort and, if there is no bipartisanship, then whatever is uncovered should be immediately dismissed.

After all, the GQP demanded presence when the recounts were going on. There’s nothing saying the Dems couldn’t make the same demand and go to court to make it happen, if necessary.

In an interview with Politico, McConnell demonstrated the tactic. “What they’ve been very forthright about is protecting the institution against pressures from their own party. I know what that’s like,” McConnell said, recalling Trump’s constant pressure to make him nuke the filibuster. “Every time I said no. And it’s nice that there are Democrats left who respect the institution and don’t want to destroy the very essence of the Senate.”

“For me right now, they’re almost guardians of democracy because they’re trying to protect us from the loss of the legislative filibuster and everything that would come with that. They’re good people,” John Thune, McConnell’s number two, told Politico—which is always willing to help spread GOP gospel. “They want to do the right thing.” If by “democracy” you mean minority rule, which Thune clearly does. Because that’s what Sinema and Manchin are protecting here.

Manchin told Politico “I just hope [Republicans] help me a little bit in bipartisanship. […] That’s all.”

I don’t think the audit will be falsified so much as it will just have MAGA’s thumb placed on the scale. They’ll just come up with nonsense excuses why Dem ballots supposedly shouldn’t have counted. It doesn’t have to withstand any kind of scrutiny, because all they’re looking for is an excuse to say “Trump wuz robbed!”

I gotta wonder what it will finally take for the Democrats to learn that the GQP has no desire for or inclination towards bipartisanship. The GQP notion of negotiation is for the left to completely abandon their positions and come over entirely to the GQP side of the discussion, where the GQP doesn’t have to give one ounce of compromise.

That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works.

But the Dems keep holding out comity and bipartisanship as a light of hope which the GQP takes great pleasure in extinguishing. And then the GQP complains that the Dems were unwilling to compromise. That’s what the media report with no pushback from the Dems explaining this continuing effort of the GQP to be majority governing when they’re in the minority.

So private funds to bankroll an audit are okay, but private funds to help administer an election, just help fund all the extra crap because of COVID, that should be banned.

Do they ever stop the hypocrisy? I mean, is the GOP capable of doing anything honest and true?

They would have been fine with the election results, but Biden forgot to share granular polling data with the Russians (or Chinese, or Iranians, or Venezuelans, etc.).
