It is not (AP)'s habit to extol the health benefits of French beaches. We are a serious news outlet, and adding descriptors that could incline readers to think that soldiers were there to get a little fresh air and sunshine would be wrong and injurious to the truth.
Readers will long remember our valiant crusade advocating that breathing in and then out, or, using the parts of the body known as ‘lungs’ to receive and distribute oxygen, was looked upon with no little astonishment by other news organizations. But in the cutthroat world of journalism, (AP) is a shining 6-watt beacon of probity.
