I’m guessing that the McCain piece last week was done knowing that this would come out this week.
And it’s nice they dropped the announcement on the day of Trump’s speech.

Don’t Republicans find it alarming that absolutely nobody who has worked with him personally actually likes him?

Many of them seem to find the leader appealing…

McCain sold his soul to the devil (and his integrity along with it) after he lost in the primaries to Bush. Someone got to his ear and told him - you keep bucking the trend, and you;ll never be president. The summer of 2000 he was a total GOP turd, and has never been the same since. There was a day I admired the man, but that was in the 20th century…

@horrido I’ve got to agree. At one time I even supported him with a few of my dollars. Then along came the “I was against torture until I was for it moment supporting Bushie” and that was it. Party over Nation won out rather than ethics and character.

I feel like these stories help paint an inaccurate picture. Just like in 2016 the ‘never Trumpers’ when it came to the election, never really mattered much. Sure there may be more of them now, but then you read things like the NYT poll where 8 out of 10 laid off republicans thought Trump was still doing great for the economy and you have to ask if there really is going to be a huge defection of GOP voters.

Concentrate on NEW voters. Marginalize the 40% of GOP asshats with NEW people. For as bad as Trump gets ‘Not a liberal’ is an identity for most GOP voters.

McCain was a staunch conservative. Presumably, so were his staffers.

Let the Trump denunciations / defections continue.

Remember what it took to defeat the Confederacy (assuming it was EVER defeated.)

750,000 dead, a nation in ruins, and we STILL, 155 years later, are fighting the Civil War, and arguing over it’s causes and effects.

Slavery is America’s “Original Sin” and we have not washed off that “out, out, damn spot” no matter how hard we try (nor how hard some try to ignore it.)

This won’t have much effect in the upcoming election, as most John McCain supporters abandoned the Orange ShitGibbon long ago, but it might help in flipping Arizona Blue.

This probably won’t make a big difference with GOP voters nationally, but it could help to put Arizona out of Trump’s reach. And considering he can’t afford any 2016 red state to flip blue, this is very good news.

The August Surprise! Followed by a September Surprise, an October Surprise, and finally the best surprise of all in November.

I yearn to see the New York Times headline: The Biggest Loser!

Every one that crosses over is one less Trump gets.

I’ll take it.

The general election is never about the true believers, it’s about the voters in the middle. The base will never be convinced to vote for Biden. The swing voters will determine the outcome of the election, and some of those voters may swing left because of something like this.

They don’t need to swing left…sitting out and not pulling the lever for the Orange Menace works, too.

Why did McCain need over 100 staff workers? And do all Senators have that many and who pays them?

Nobody likes him, but he owns the libs. Apparently that is enough to justify anything.

There is no such thing as a “Swing Voter”. That is a myth.

There are only those who have not yet rationalized their “already made” decision on who to vote for.

If someone tells you they “can’t decide” between these two polar opposite candidates, they are LYING to protect their social status, friendships, and/or close relations with others they either love or respect (Husbands, Wives, Parents, Friends, etc.) and are just avoiding the inevitable CONFLICT they see coming because of their decision.
They HAVE decided, but do not yet have enough “ammunition” to rationalize their decision out loud.
Once they feel they can “DEFEND” their decision, they will admit to it publicly.
Many NEVER DO and just go into the voting booth without ever admitting publicly who they voted for all along. This explains Trump’s unusual strength in many districts in 2016, and will explain his unusual strength in this election also. Many people strongly support his actions, but will NEVER ADMIT IT because they know, deep down, that it is wrong, but they will vote for him anyway.
This is why Trump keeps pounding on the RACISM, MISOGYNY, and WHITE SUPREMACY angles, because it results in lots of votes from the people who also believe in those things secretly.
Trump may be an ignorant fool, but he is an excellent, highly experienced Con Man who knows how to push people’s buttons to his advantage.
He knows that people Vote on their FEELINGS, not on POLICIES. That is why the Republicans have totally abandoned any pretense of even having any POLICES, because they appeal to voters who DON’T REQUIRE ANY.
Once you understand that, it all makes perfect sense.
