Discussion: Sanders Campaign Airs First Ad As Part Of $2 Million Buy

Discussion for article #242405

ā€œThe ad focuses on Sanders as the ā€œhonestā€ candidate without mentioning former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.ā€

Where in the hell did that brilliant observation come from? Spoiling for a scrap that isnā€™t there? Did you expect otherwise? WTF?

What is it about Sanders that the author doesnā€™t understand? Everything, evidently.

You said it. Does every frigginā€™ ad have to be an attack ad?

TPM canā€™t mention Bernie without a plug for Hillary; there are those at TPM scared to death that Bernie might make Hillary work for that nomination.

Bernie has managed to go his whole political career without having negative ads or attacking anyone. That may change in the near future, but heā€™s doing his best to keep this civilā€¦thing is, the media wants there to be conflict. They want there to be a scorched earth war between candidates. It gets clicks and sells papers. This is why they want Clinton to be the nominee because they know people will drink up the mud thatā€™ll be slung.

It isnā€™t just TPMā€¦

TPM has turned the cornerā€¦ They are so successful that they consider themselves part of the MSM.

Thusly, they now report conventional wisdom, in the same vapid, horse race terms that sully the name of journalism.

I feel bad for Prime members who actually pay for this crap.

I only come here to comment with all of you.

Another reason for them to not objectively report on Trump or Bushā€¦ Either of these vs. HRC, is a goldmine for them.

The old expression about the media being the referees needs to go away. They are trying to be choreographersā€¦

The Ready for Hillary girls must be hyperventilating, looking for a brown paper bag.

Didnā€™t Bernie get the memo?

Waiting for that cow McCaskill to take another cheap shot at the ā€œextremeā€ candidate Sanders. Maybe sheā€™ll call him a ā€œStalinistā€ this time.

I often wonder why the media is so lazy. Facts just donā€™t seem to matter.

Very true, and it is a very predictable narrative too. They wanted Clinton versus Bush desperately due to the laziness of how that writes itself, but as someone pointed out yesterday on MSNBC, Jeb! hasnā€™t run for office in 13 years and the GOP has shifted heavily away from the part of the Base that would vote for him. But with those two they could write out a very standard narrative about the Bushes going after the Clintons for whateverā€¦the chaos on the GOP side means that they canā€™t control the narrative and thatā€™s making life very sad for them in some ways because not having a clear front runner means they canā€™t really be lazy and actually have to speculateā€¦

Money is more important than facts for the people at the top controlling the media outlets. It is as simple as that. The more money people like Rupert Murdoch can make the less facts actually matter.

When the facts on the ground become to unbearable for the public, no amount of money can save Mr. Murdochā€™s ā€˜ā€˜media outletā€™ā€™.

A-yepā€¦but the problem is that people like Murdoch donā€™t care about whatā€™s going to happen in five or ten years so long as they rake in the money today.

Agreed. It is true, itā€™s all about the people that post here. Marshall might as well admit it and just go ahead and introduce a Sports tab here at TPM. Enough of the pretense. Works for me.

Perfect! Yes indeed, the FUN DAYS of Bill Clintonā€™s economy! I miss them so.

Sports tab? Film tab first! As to Bloomieā€™s it was my first employer. Iā€™d leave most of my salary behind before Iā€™d leave for the day.

A lot the media buzz, theme and fatalistic attitudes about Sanders are his elect-ability etc. So was the theme about a black man few years back called Barrack Hussein Obama.

Bernie usually refers to himself as a Democratic Socialist.

.
He is looking to thread the needle and weave a tapestry that combines the best of capitalism and socialism. It Includes respect and care for our shared resources, incorporating all of us as human resources with worth to ourselves and others, in order to help avoid the Tragedy of the Commons that the Republicans and corporatists are so dead set on realizing.

He is doing an outstanding job of finding the pathway through the GOP swamp of ignorant cemented ideologies and human greed.

Waaahhhhh!!!

In what universe is this story a ā€œplugā€ for Hillary? It mentions her and contrasts her ads (not necessarily favorably) because, as it happens, sheā€™s the frontrunner who Sanders is currently running against.

The constant WATB defensiveness and paranoia from his devotees is doing more to drag down peopleā€™s perception of Bernie as a potential winner than anything in the media, mainstream or otherwise. You guys canā€™t see a story about him and just cheer or say ā€œyay!ā€ or even ā€œHillary is a corrupt corporatist sell-out warmonger who Bernie will easily beat!ā€ No, every single time all you guys ever seem to see is another exshample of teh big media conshpirishy againsht Bernie! through a confirmation bias filter that reeks of defeatism and failure.

And hereā€™s the thing: the coverage of his candidacy has been remarkably positive on balance. Heā€™s the left most guy in high elected office in America and yet heā€™s treated, not as a fringe figure, but, rather as a guy whose message is resonating.

I consider the comparisons to Trump shallow and invidious, but theyā€™re the product of the general shallow Blitzer-like brainlessness that afflicts our whole MSM, not some grand plot to ā€œgetā€ Bernie.
