How much ya bet the application for a counter-protest gets denied because to hold it would be too controversial, present the likelihood of injury or property damage, or the possibility of promoting civil unrest?

No, the NPS has to approve the permit for both, as both are comparable free speech protests. The NPS, at least so far, has not been subsumed to the point that it will shut down one side of the conversation. And, if it does try, it will be a scandal and not matter, thousands will show up in opposition anyways.

It’s easy to forget that there are still good people in the government who are aghast at what is happening at the top…that is why Trump and company are trying to hard to get the power to fire government employees at will, so they can get rid of the defenders of our principles and replace them with, well, Nazis.

While I understand the need and/or the impulse to counter-protest, I think it would be more effective to ignore this one. Brownshirted youth in MAGA hats and Nazi symbols in D.C. Just let them vent their spleen in front of the White House on a hot day in August all by themselves. There’s times when dignified silence is an effective response to a deliberate provocation.
