Discussion: Fox Host Argues Stormy Daniels Payment Was Legal, Using Some Shoddy Logic

In the eyes of Team Trump, nothing DT has done, been accused of doing, or threatened to do is as unethical, illegal and/or morally repugnant as presidenting while black.

Job 34:30 - … the hypocrite should not reign, Lest the people be ensnared.

This argument that the president should be above the law ‘because North Korea’ is weak sauce.

Actually its not. They illegality of the payment, and how they structured it, is what is driving this story.

The obfuscation is already in effect. Trump didn’t pay Cohen back with his own money. His campaign made a serious of payments to Trump Org to pay Cohen back.

So they attempted to cover up the payments, by using a third party (Trump Org) to launder the money through. So it wouldn’t ever show up as a campaign expenditure. That’s not just a campaign finance violation, that’s fraud.

Here’s the problem here. It’s perfectly legal for Trump to pay $130k to Stormy Daniels to keep her from talking. However, since the purpose was to aid his own re-election, the trail from Trump to Trump election committee to Stephanie Clifford has to be disclosed. However, if it happens just before the election that disclosure doesn’t happen until after election day.

Instead, they fall back into “hide it under the bills from your lawyer.” Now they’ve done two things to screw themselves. First of all, it’s all much shadier. A simple campaign finance violation doesn’t have much more sanction than a speeding ticket. However, the deliberate obfuscation becomes more serious. Even that hasn’t sunk the Orange Dickless Shitgibbon yet. What sinks him is that it establishes a pattern. First, the other 40 or 50 or 60 women in similar circumstances can step up. A lot of those don’t look good, and the amount of money involved is substantial.

Second, it gets out enough dirt to piss off Mrs. Melania Trump. During her divorce action, as part of getting out of the pre-nup and deciding how much she gets to take Short Fingers to the cleaners, she gets to depose him and his accountants about his finances. Now, it’s getting scary. Mueller and various of the other prosecutors are going to be curious about all the laundered money they find. Oh, yes. I’m sure that Cohen’s LLCs were used for hiding things other than hush money for Trump’s women. (I think that Avenatti is indeed angling for a big legal settlement. More power to him. This guy is one of the top civil litigators in the country, and he’ll give Trump a reaming royal. But that’s nothing compared to what happens when Mueller’s legal firepower opens up – that makes anything Avenatti does look like the ranging shots.)
