Discussion: EXCHANGE: Josh Marshall and Mark Cuban on Donald Trump's Campaign Financing

I’m not sure the Cuban exchange was very valuable (although the attempt to gain some insight is appreciated), but I think “how much” is pretty generic phrasing that can mean much or little. No one would believe Deadbeat Donald would be embarrassed by a large amount, only by a small amount.

The most notable thing about this exchange is how much of an idiot Josh Marshall comes off as, pushing and pushing the same moderate-liberal journalistic mania about Trump’s worth, specifically whether or not he’s worth a billion. Who cares! Electoral fund raising in capitalism is about getting hired by people and corporations with money or other special influence or power. Right now, Trump isn’t particularly popular with much of that crowd (which is why there’s serious discussion about giving him the toss at the Convention, so they can have a credible candidate aginst Hillary, i.e., a Democrat, who they really don’t see need for in the White House). Nothing Cuban says is new or couldn’t already have been surmised by someone with half a brain.

Unless that number was exceedingly low. Then he’d be embarrassed.

Lllol You’re exactly right. I totally read that wrong, but when you put it that way it makes sense. I was so incredulous, like, who does Cuban think he’s fooling.:grin:

Look Cuban does want to rock the boat. He is trying to have his cake and eat it. The NY Times has done some great stories on how no one will work on his building (he never pays on time and then at most pennies on the dollar) , how banks won’t deal with him (bankrupting his casinos, his airline and such). As Cuban said he is a Brand nothing more nothing less.

Ivanka is the real brains…

This is great journalism. It provides us Mark Cuban’s worldview without judgement or reservation, and allows one to judge his biases clearly. Josh Marshall’s questions are fair, even though they present his own worldview and bias. Makes Trump’s long-con game clear, without forgoing ideological stakes of either side. This is truly objective journalism, which doesn’t pretend to negate subjective positions.

I think we may be reading what Cuban said wrong. I think tRump may be embarrassed about how LITTLE he made, not how much…

Lol, should have expected someone here to beat me to my observation!

Yes, I can see that…

Tough crowd! I actually got a lot from the exchange, like what is important and not important in trying to evaluate the worth of Donald Trump. A brand not a businessman, which he overvalues. Look at the liquid assets and the only important and truthful statement. The rest is “unimportant” and part of the bluster. Suggested a path the more disclosure: “You can file a complaint with the FEC. I’m surprised no one has.” Tamped down some of the wilder speculations – he’s not totally broke because he owns the NY real estate. The probable embarrassment over how much income he has vs., presumable, living off loans and leverage.

Maybe I’m just a noob with all this billionaire’s money stuff, but I took a lot from the exchange. :smirk:

Yes, you are absolutely right that is what defense attorneys argue about the burden of proof at trial.

I interpreted your comment to be more about what defense attorneys are willing to believe or accept in their discussions with their clients and in trying to prepare a trial defense. Defense attorneys do not like to be surprised or ambushed after accepting and arguing for a particular version of the facts. That applies to the trial of course, but also to resolving issues with the prosecutor within the larger universe of the case on the way to trial, in plea negotiations and sentencing proceedings.

A recurring area of humorous conversation, if you have some defense attorney friends, and among defense attorneys, socially or when they run into each other in the waiting rooms at the jail, are the occasionally patently incredible explanations about one or more inalterable facts in a case that a current or past client has expected the attorney to accept and actually work with . I thought you were making a statement about attitude and a predisposition to suspend disbelief.

Mark Cuban has a bit of an attitude.

Mark Cuban: Don’t agree. He probably is embarrassed by how much he made in a given year. I don’t think it’s anything more than that.

Oh, what a give-away, Cuban is just kidding, Trump wouldn’t know what embarrasment is …

This was such a waste of time. Cuban is as bad as Trump with his nonsensical, evasive ramblings.

I agree. For purposes of the campaign, that’s what matters.

He isnt an entrepreneur. He is a brand.
