All because the GOP wanted to look in peoples pants. Sad!

Haven’t seen this on TPM - believe it or not Texas thought NC’s HB2 that we’re trying it ourselves.

Letting people continue to use their usual restroom choice:
— $0

Hating people (that you’ve never taken notice of) enough to force them to use a restroom that no longer makes sense:
— Priceless $3+ billion

It’s fascinating to see actual consequences to shitty behavior in this country

It’s nice that corporations have actually been affected by public outcry, and are making that outcry felt in real ways. It encourages people to be more involved in the process, since they can see that their activism has an effect.

Yeah – Lt. Governor Dan Goeb nĂ© Patrick has a real hard on about passing a bathroom bill
and really doesn’t care if there’s any economic fall out, because: right-wing christianism.

Making haters pay is righteous work. Sorry good citizens of North Carolina, your bad government is being taught a lesson which you are paying for through lost reputation and revenues. Hate must have consequences, and it starts with the bottom line.

North Carolina Rethugs couldn’t care less about the billions lost. What they do care about, however, are the loss of the NCAA tournament games as well as other prestigious sporting events. Sad.

HB2 aside, I can’t think of a good reason to visit NC. And, yes, I’ve been there many times. I’m sure conferences and businesses have plenty of options. No one will miss Charlotte and other states have very nice barrier islands and mountain towns, not to mention kudzu and strip malls.

I loved that Disney gave the middle finger to all the conservative groups and objecting countries who wanted them to change the gay scene in the movie. Disney must have figured out the religious right was losing its grip over America because their movie has raked in more than $315 million domestically in 10 days. In addition, “Beauty and the Beast” brought in more than $119 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total to more than $690 million. Very soon, Emma Watson will get a great pay increase. Her pay will be bumped up from 3 million to 15 million if the movie grosses over 700 million.

Because the only consequence he cares about is the impact on his chances of being the next Governor and an eventual US Senator.

Interesting Forbes article about the incredible economic impact just for the annual NCAA men’s basketball Final Four tournament. The 2016 Final Four tournament in Houston brought in an estimated $300,000,000 during the tourney. Might as well hand each NC Republican legislator a sharp stick so they can go around poking each other in the eyes. Idiots.

Whoa, $3B is a lot of money. All cuz they wanted to prevent people from going pee.

North Carolina has made it to the Final Four. I haven’t watched that many games and I usually watch with the sound off: has it been mentioned on the telecasts that the NCAA won’t set foot in the state? And why?

The good thing is that many in the Texas House including the Leader of the House, Joe Straus, have no interest in bringing this bill to the floor. The bad news is the Tea Partiers, the House Freedom Caucus, will most likely try to add this bill in as amendments to unrelated legislation.

Clearly the bill has been bad for NC and its former Governor. But sure, the GOP loves kicking a dead can, or bringing up legislation that will most likely be ruled Unconstitutional.

Here is some reading for context:

Pat McCrory cost North Carolina more than $3,000,000,000 and he now complains about not being employable

Lawmakers in the state have made several attempts to repeal the law since it was enacted, but those efforts have come up short.

This is not actually true. Democrats have proposed a full ‘repeal’ bill, but Republicans want to repeal it, but then ensure that municipalities can’t implement local ordinances either, which is not a repeal at all, just a continuance by another name.

Ironically, looking in peoples’ pants wouldn’t solve the GOP’s bathroom dilemma. Their position is you have to use the bathroom that matches your gender at birth. So if someone had a penis at birth, under the GOP rules they would have to use the men’s room, even if they have had a sex change operation and hormone therapy and wear women’s clothing, have boobs and no penis. And the same would be true with folks whose birth certificates say (F) but have had sex change operations and dress and look male - they would be required to use the women’s room.

Basically their absurd position would lead to exactly what they fear – that their sons would be walking into a bathroom with female-looking, female-dressed people and that their daughters would be walking into a bathroom with male-looking, male-dressed people.

Of course in the GOP fantasy world, nobody would be allowed to get a sex change operation in the first place, so, no problem. But as usual, legislating based on their fantasy world leads to paradoxical results in the real world.

McCrory was very excited to land a job recently as poster boy for the GOP: Special Victims Unit until he discovered that, not only was it was an unpaid position, replacements were a dime a dozen.
