Zelensky Takes His Pro-Democracy Pitch To Congress

Good point! His writing skills (if it’s his hand writing this which I strongly would suspect to be the case) are nothing to sneeze at either:

today I am almost 45 years old. Today my age stopped, when the hearts of 100 children stopped beating.

Just one of his quotes I think the world will be hearing in similar company to those Z quoted!

Scalise drops the genocide word. McCarthy blames Biden. Clueless on old MIG issue.

I am afraid Kate misheard. Zelenskyy asked members of Congress to pressure any American corporations doing business in Russia to stop immediately.

I saw Nancy say something to Steny, still seated and writing. He was like “Oh!” And jumped to his feet.

Zelenskyy is just exactly the leader needed in Ukraine at this moment. He’s the leader the world needs more of. We have ours in Biden.

I saw that too. He gets a zero for the day, the horse-faced dope.

I strongly suspect that he is the primary author of these speeches. And they will live in history.

He seemed unaware that people were standing until Nancy said something. He jumped up pretty quickly though.

Yeah…I guess Steny…stands for Stenyographer?

When did we stop calling him turtle?

Yep…that’s his first, go-to thought.

Unfortunately for me, it was over produced. I recognize that Ukraine has their game on when it comes to messaging and manipulation. I think it would have been better though to have just been silent and let the imagery run.

20 of these old planes seems hard to do.

I kinda concur. I wish they had used music being played by the defiant Ukrainian street musicians…showing them playing…then continuing the music under, that would have been powerful.

I watched it over on C-span and there was a different interpreter and you could hear more of his voice.

And he ended the speech in English, after the film clip, so kudos to him.

I’m sure it was planned.

I’m also willing to bet that the first part was delivered so that his home audience would be able to hear it as well. He has to be heard to be doing everything he can and pleading as hard as he can in order to continue to have his people’s faith that he’s doing his best (even if he understands the problematic of a no-fly zone and other things he’s pleading for). I cannot believe he would waste the chance to hit multiple audiences – and, again, kudos to him.

When it swapped to him speaking directly, it felt more meaningful.

Oh, absolutely, and he’s a man who understands messaging. That’s why I think the speech was planned the way it was.

I know that in a recent interview with an American reporter he used an interpreter. The reporter said that while Z can speech English, he doesn’t feel he is as proficient as he needs to be when communicating such critical messages. I get that. I do wish the PBS interpreter had been less robotic.
