What an utterly pathetic couple of people. I’m sure the parents thoroughly indoctrinated their son against critical thinking. As a public school teacher of 35 years I can tell you that if a kid has issues like that it’s almost ALWAYS the fault of the parents. Children would be much better off if parents would allow them to think without bias. They can usually work it out for themselves.

Obviously we need to ban these teachers and the works they’re based on. Someone has to protect vulnerable young white minds from the bestial writings of commies, darkies and lizard poets! Keep filthy ideas out of our kids’ minds!

This whole outrage was manufactured by people desperately looking for controversy. It’s pretty transparent and stupid actually.

This is yet another indication that Youngkin’s internals aren’t good. When you’re trying to scare people with a Toni Morrison book, it’s not because you think you’re winning. The fact that he’s still trying to solidify the Karen vote is telling.

The student told the Post at the time that the book had given him nightmares because it was “disgusting and gross” and “hard for me to handle.”

Speaking as someone who’s read and taught Beloved, I’m actually going to say that if this kid indeed responded to it in this way, it had something very like the effects Morrison was after. Thing is, though, he seems not to have responded to those scenes in anything more than the most superficial of ways. It indeed does contain scenes in it that are tough to stomach, but he seems not to have asked himself what the novel insists its readers ask: If you were an enslaved person who has children whom you don’t want to grow up as enslaved people, too, what would you be willing to do to keep that from happening? Beloved is a deeply moral book: it pulls no punches, but we’re meant to do more with those unpulled punches than just run to Mommy.

It’s funny how consistently wingnuts violate their alleged beliefs. Say they like small government but are for regulating women’s bodies. Say they’re fiscal conservatives but keep ballooning the deficit. Say they’re pro-military but keep abusing it to fight senseless wars of choice. Say they’re for family values but their leaders keep getting caught having affairs and molesting minors. You know, self-medication through bad governance isn’t very effective, fellas!

"Thank you, Jake, for that gripping report from Minority Leader McCarthy’s office.

To recap, Congressional Republicans are calling for a special investigative hearing today, Day Eleven, into what is now being called Book-gate, and in a related development the group Smut Squad is already gathering signatures demanding a forensic audit of the vote count of the committee that awarded the Pulitzer Prize for literature to Toni Morrison after allegations were raised about the selection process.

And in related news, local chapters of the watchdog group Million Moms Matter have announced nationwide public book burnings until President Biden resigns, and are demanding that federal funds earmarked for COVID vaccinations be used instead to provide grief counseling to students who have been exposed to the book, which we are not naming while there are still an estimated 100,000 copies in circulation.

A search and recovery mission for rogue copies of the book is scheduled to continue until summer of 2022 – and maybe longer given the American Library Association’s refusal to cooperate with authorities.

President Biden is reported – and I must add that this has not been confirmed yet – to have already invoked executive privilege for White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, a move constitutional scholar and CNN legal analyst Jonathan Turley said has cast a “pall” over what President Biden once promised would be the “most transparent administration.”

“I mean, I voted for the man, but this incident raises serious questions about his character, and I think the American public is right to demand answers,” said Turley.

More on that later as information comes in.

And still no response from Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumed frontrunner for the Democrats in 2024, on this enveloping scandal. A planned visit to the Iowa State Fair, a bellwether event for presidential hopefuls, has been cancelled, and her press secretary has declined comment.

Stay on it, Jake.

And I have to agree with you Jake, these revelations are absolutely devastating for President Biden, who is now scrambling to reunite his fractured caucus and salvage his embattled agenda only nine months into his administration.

Again, this couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Democrats.

Also, join us at 8 to 9 PM tonight as we sit down for an exclusive special edition with CNN’s chief lexicographer, who will provide important historical context for this latest troubling development:

Did President Biden really disrespect Meghan McCain by calling her Peggy?

Or did we mis-hear?

This, and more.

There must still be some of that kid’s former classmates around. A nice ad featuring them would be just the ticket for the last days prior to election day. Maybe also, a video clip of Toni Morrison herself reading a passage from her book.
