Yellen Warns McCarthy That Treasury Could Run Out Of Money To Pay Country’s Debts ‘Early As June 1’

I’m afraid corrupt greed-heads might not be the only ones to pile on to what was meant to just be some good-natured short term profit making.

Yellen: Cancel your summer National Park tour!

Big foreshadowing of the GQP’s Contract on America fiasco from 1994… and this time with even less qualified bozos in House leadership? Then we get to find out how much the local Congress-critters on the right want to be remembering for crippling even further the tourism industries in their districts.

Like I said, Biden’s longevity in government encompasses more than is commonly thought.

And many government agencies, as well as pension funds, many of which are required to invest their money in AAA rated securities.

I agree that’s likely.

Damage to our financial standing and global economy would like still ensue.

Indeed. It is little known that, as a very young man, he spent several years in the churn under his nom de politique, “Brandon Darke.”

I guess our hope is that somebody OTHER than Gaetz, Greene, Boebert et. all… somebody TRULY powerful - master-of-the-universe-level-powerful, calls up the Speaker and says ‘THIS IS HOW IT IS GOING TO BE. YOU ARE GOING TO DO WHAT I TELL YOU AND YOU ARE GOING TO DO IT NOW.’

Ironically, Kevin “Shoot the Hostage!” McCarthy is, himself, a hostage…

To his own Clown Caucus. (“Claucus”?)

The instant he releases the hostage, they shoot him!

It isn’t possible for the U.S. Treasury to “run out of money.” Republicans know this, why not Dems?

We’ve gone through this before. I have no idea how it turns out, but I have an inkling that it will be a glorious shit show of the very worst kind before all the debt settles.

And, oh yes, we’re quite doomed once again. Quite.

Not even remotely claiming to have detailed knowledge of this, though even the experts might have widely divergent views.

But what I’ve read is it would be more along the lines of the President ordering the treasury to keep paying the nation’s bills, in lieu of Congress’s failure to fulfill its Constitutional duty.

In other words, a total shit show, but with global markets crashing would Congress’s response be to file a lawsuit?

The disgusting thing is none of this should even be a question. The budget process is not the debt limit. It infuriates me that the media continues to allow McCarthy and the Trumplicans to pretend they are, no matter how many times Biden points out the fallacy (and he has).

That’s why I finally decided to buy even more popcorn futures.

Iowa should thank me! :smirk:

The Freedom Caucus is bereft of the explanatory ability to refer to the Poison Bill of Qev’s, let alone explain.

As for the general population getting the message…we only need the 60+% of sane Americans to get it.

I explained it to some of my grandchildren and, despite their being in elementary school, they GOT IT.

With what money? The money runs out June 1st. There ain’t no more until the US issues (sells) more bonds.

There will come a point where a clean vote will come to the floor to prove it won’t pass.

It will pass.

It’s all actually quite exciting in a global economic disaster and armageddon sort of way. Popcorn indeed and mind the wandering bands of cannibals and packs of feral dogs.

I have an idea. Stop paying interest on Treasuries held by Russia, Pootie Patootie, entities and individuals involved in war crimes.
