They were probably fine with it. The judge wrote the script, its relatively easy and cheap to put up the calls after that. And, my point above, they saw it as creating more confusion, which was their original intent anyway.
Throw the book at both of them, for both sets of crimes, and let them spend a decade or two in prison.

If I were Barr (and thank goodness I am not), I think I’d be a little peeved at the President going on the attack against me, insisting I arrest former President’s 2016 opponent and his current opponent, with no evidence. After all the things I have done for Trump the last two years–some unethical and probably illegal–to save his butt. And this is how I get thanked? I think I’ll just be quiet and fly under the radar till this disaster is over with. Maybe by not attracting attention, Trump will move on to other things and people to attack for the next few weeks. Or maybe, if Biden wins, I’ll resign right after the election and let the SOB twist in the wind trying to find someone who will want this thankless job for two months by doing Trump’s delusional bidding, and then have their credibility ruined for life.

I don’t like the remedy here. Having them make robocalls saying “voting by mail is safe” is counterproductive now; Dems’ messaging NOW is “vote in person”. Nothing else is safe. These new robocalls just step on that message. If they add a mea culpa to the message, that just adds to the confusion. The right remedy was to make them pay damages to the Democratic Party and send them to jail.
